FOURTH PILLAR OF CATECHISM: PRAYER

The Lord’s Prayer The Lord’s Prayer, the prayer Jesus taught us, is the most perfect prayer and the summary of all prayers. It consists of seven prayers. The first three refer to God and how we must serve him. The last four elevate human needs to God, the Father. The Gospel of the Catholic Church tells us that the Lord’s Prayer leads us directly to the heart of our Father (n. 2761-2772, 2774, 2776). We dare to call God ‘Father’ because through Jesus we are children of God and Jesus’ brothers and sisters. For some, this image of God as a Father can be a bit difficult because they may have had experiences with their biological fathers; however, by going further and referring to God as a good Father, that image of bad parents can be healed in the safety of the heavenly Father’s love. The Lord’s Prayer transforms us so that we may know profoundly the love of our father. If God loves us in this extraordinary way, we ourselves must treat each other with dignity, respect, and love, because we are created in the image of the God who created us and personally loves us as a Father. Where is God’s heaven? Heaven is not above or in the stratosphere. Heave is wherever God is present. It is where we allow the loving, healing, joyful presence of God to satiate and move us. What does “hallowed be thy name” mean? To sanctify the name of God means to put Him above all else. The name in the Sacred Scriptures point to the true essence of a person. To sanctify the name of God means to recognize God in his reality, praise him, make him respected, and to live according to his commandments. What does “your kingdom come” mean? We ask that Christ returns as promised. French writer and philosopher, Francois Fenelon said: “Love everything that God loves, love him always, in every occasion and without reservations, this is the reign of God that is within.” That does “thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven?” When we pray so that God’s will is universally fulfilled, we ask that on Earth and in our hearts everything is now as it is in heaven. If we only trust in ourselves, in our own desires and plans, we leave no room for God’s will and the Earth will not be converted into heaven. We find joy when we truly want what God wants. SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD 15 DE JUNIO DEL 2014

CUARTO PILAR DEL CATECISMO: LA ORACIÓN El Padrenuestro El Padrenuestro, la oración que Jesús nos enseño, es la oración más perfecta y el resumen de todas las oraciones. Consiste en siete peticiones. Las tres primeras se refieren a Dios y a cómo debemos servirle. Las últimas cuatro elevan las necesidades humanas a Dios Padre. El Padrenuestro nos conduce directamente al corazón de nuestro Padre, nos dice el Evangelio de la Iglesia Católica (nn. 2761-2772, 2774, 2776). Nos atrevemos a llamar a Dios Padre porque, por Jesús, somos hijos de Dios y hermanos de Jesús. Para algunos, esta imagen de Dios como Padre puede ser un poco difícil. Porque quizá tengan mala experiencias de su padre biológico; pero, al ir más allá y dirigirse a Dios como Padre bueno, esa imagen de malos padres puede, quedar curada en la seguridad del amor del Padre celestial. El Padrenuestro nos transforma al conocer profundamente el amor de nuestro padre. Si Dios nos ama de esa manera extraordinaria, nosotros mismos tenemos que tratarnos entre nosotros con dignidad, respeto y amor, porque somos esa imagen del Dios que nos creó y que nos ama personalmente, como Padre. ¿Dónde está el cielo de Dios? El cielo no está arriba ni en la estratosfera. El cielo está dondequiera que Dios está presente. Allí donde permitimos que la presencia amorosa, sanadora, alegre de Dios nos llene y nos mueva. ¿Qué quiere decir “santificado sea tu nombre”? Santificar el nombre de Dios significa ponerlo a Él por encima de todo. El nombre en la Sagrada Escritura señala la verdadera esencia de una persona. Santificar el nombre de Dios significa reconocer a Dios en su realidad, alabarlo, hacerlo respetar y vivir según sus mandamientos. ¿Qué quiere decir “venga a nosotros tu reino”? Pedimos que Cristo regrese como ha prometido. El escritor y filosofo francés Francois Fenelon dice: “Querer todo lo que Dios quiere, quererlo siempre, en toda ocasión y sin reserva, esto es el reino de Dios que está en el interior”. ¿Qué quiere decir “hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el Cielo”? Cuando oramos para que se cumpla universalmente la voluntad de Dios, pedimos que en la tierra y en nuestro propio corazón sea ya todo como es en el cielo. Si solo confiamos en nosotros mismos, en nuestros propios deseos y en nuestros propios planes, no dejaremos espacio a la voluntad de Dios y la tierra no se podrá convertir en el cielo. Encontramos la felicidad cuando verdaderamente queremos lo que Dios quiere. Orar es hacer espacio a la voluntad de Dios en nosotros y en nuestra vida.
