ADDITIONAL CONFESSION TIMES During Lent Season every Tuesday from 5:30pm—6:30pm there will be confessions in the church.

Stations of the Cross The stations of the cross will begin Friday February 16th at 6:00 pm followed by soup supper in the Rubis Hall.

Words from Father James regarding Lent: We begin with Ashes, with a humble recognition of our need for God’s Mercy. We enter into a 40 day retreat, a time of preparation for the Holy Days, The Sacred Triduum of Holy Week. These days are an ideal time to stop and reflect. What keeps us from being saints? What in our lives needs transformation? Where do we need discipline? Then, each of us needs to decide on a personal program for Lent. Make it realizable and concrete. Try to include an element of the three practices of Mathew 6: Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving/Charity. Prayer: Participation in daily Mass, regular Scripture readings, Friday Stations of the Cross; time spent in quiet prayer, praying the Rosary, Spiritual reading-finding a good book on our library cart in Rubis Hall. Fasting: In addition to the established days of Fasting (Ash Wednesday and Good Friday) and Abstinence (Ash Wednesday and Fridays of Lent) fast from something that might be an obstacle to a deeper friendship with God: some kinds of foods, use of alcohol, of television, of devices, computers. Almsgiving/Charity: Give to others. Use the Rice Bowl to gather sacrifices for Holy Thursday. Give of your time to someone with special needs, visit and elder, a sick person, someone in prison.

FAST & ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. Fish is a good substitute for meat on Friday’s of Lent
