Dear Parishioners, Were finally entering the home stretch. By this weekend, our handicapped elevator should be finished and waiting for inspection. Our auxiliary basement air-conditioner should be installed and in running order. We already have an auxiliary furnace for the basement as well. Our basement is fully insulated and sound proofed. We will also have constant air exchange going as well. All we need now are the finishing touches. Uh, thats a bit misleading, because theyre actually big jobs: Painting walls, new flooring throughout, restroom necessities, new platform and staircase at the newly remodeled entrance, staining and varnishing, installing the flooring, molding, trim, new doors, outfitting the security room (yes, security equipment, cameras, etc.), new kitchen cabinetry, a new fridge, and on and on. And, just when you think youre done, BOOM, something else hits. Remember that rain last weekend? Well, now it seems were going to need significant work on our stained glass windows. Unfortunately, over the years, there has been scant repair and maintenance overall in the church. This is why so much work is necessary now. So, more biting the bullet for the needed work on our beautiful windows. Youve noticed the beginnings of a facelift for our vestibule and ceiling in the rear of the nave. Wonderful things will be done very soon. Also, the repositioning of Our Lady and St. Joseph are right around the corner. When Our Lady was taken off her rock throne, she sustained damages. So shell soon be back with us repaired and restored. Soon, well also all be able to enjoy exterior lighting across the entire front of the church. All this and more, thanks to you and your characteristic generosity. We are all blessed here at our little St. Joseph Church. All of this work has been done by a mixture of simply wonderful people, but primarily driven by our matchless team of volunteers who have worked so hard and side by side with those professionals it was necessary to engage. These professionals, most of them friends or our honorary volunteer foreman and contractor, have worked here AFTER theyve finished their real jobs, and have worked at very reduced rates. Vendors, also friends of the boss, very often have provided materials at cost. In short, if this work were done at normal prices, by contracted workers, wed be paying double and not getting the quality were getting now. So much to be grateful for, my children and my friends. Dear Parishioners,

We’re finally entering the home stretch. By this weekend,

our handicapped elevator should be finished and waiting

for inspection. Our auxiliary basement air-conditioner should be

installed and in running order. We already have an auxiliary furnace for

the basement as well. Our basement is fully insulated and sound

proofed. We will also have constant air exchange going as well. All we

need now are the finishing touches. Uh, that’s a bit misleading, because

they’re actually big jobs: Painting walls, new flooring throughout,

restroom necessities, new platform and staircase at the newly remodeled

entrance, staining and varnishing, installing the flooring, molding, trim,

new doors, outfitting the security room (yes, security equipment,

cameras, etc.), new kitchen cabinetry, a new fridge, and on and on.

And, just when you think you’re done, BOOM, something else hits.

Remember that rain last weekend? Well, now it seems we’re going to

need significant work on our stained glass windows. Unfortunately,

over the years, there has been scant repair and maintenance overall in

the church. This is why so much work is necessary now. So, more biting

the bullet for the needed work on our beautiful windows.

You’ve noticed the beginnings of a facelift for our vestibule and ceiling

in the rear of the nave. Wonderful things will be done very soon. Also,

the repositioning of Our Lady and St. Joseph are right around the

corner. When Our Lady was taken off her rock “throne,” she sustained

damages. So she’ll soon be back with us repaired and restored. Soon,

we’ll also all be able to enjoy exterior lighting across the entire front of

the church. All this and more, thanks to you and your characteristic

generosity. We are all blessed here at our little St. Joseph Church.

All of this work has been done by a mixture of simply wonderful

people, but primarily driven by our matchless team of volunteers who

have worked so hard and side by side with those professionals it was

necessary to engage. These professionals, most of them friends or our

honorary volunteer foreman and contractor, have worked here AFTER

they’ve finished their “real jobs,” and have worked at very reduced

rates. Vendors, also friends of “the boss,” very often have provided

materials at cost. In short, if this work were done at normal prices, by

contracted workers, we’d be paying double and not getting the quality

we’re getting now. So much to be grateful for, my children and my

friends. Father Magiera

Dressing for Church

Yes, it’s quite hot. Yes, it’s summer. Still, there is a certain amount

of decorum that should be observed when entering God’s House and

worshipping Him at Mass. These are not the times to sport your

favorite beach-wear, regardless of how cool and fashionable it is.

Nor should shorts and flip-flops rule the day. Our church is very

nicely air-conditioned so, it’s not too much to dress modestly and,

yes, tastefully, for God. Gents should make every effort to wear

dress slacks and, at least, a sport shirt. Ladies are always at their

most beautiful in a tasteful dress or skirt and blouse. Should ladies

choose slacks, remember looser is always more comfortable than

tighter. Think Betty White rather than Kim Kardashian.

Diocese of Joliet Announces Appointment of

New Bishop, Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks JOLIET, IL-- Pope Francis announced that he

has named Bishop Ronald A. Hicks, Vicar

General of the Archdiocese of Chicago, as the

sixth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Joliet,

IL. Pope Francis had previously accepted the

resignation of Bishop Emeritus R. Daniel

Conlon and had named Bishop Richard E.

Pates as Apostolic Administrator of the dio-

cese until a new bishop could be appointed.

Bishop Hicks, 52, will be installed at the Ca-

thedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, Ill.

on September 29, 2020.

"The Diocese of Joliet is most grateful to Pope Francis for the ap-

pointment of Bishop Ronald Hicks as its sixth bishop,” said Bishop

Pates. “The bishop owns a reputation for pastoral leadership and is

totally committed to the ongoing renewal of the Catholic Church. He

is a worthy successor to Bishop Conlon and his predecessors."

About Bishop Hicks Bishop Hicks, a native of Harvey, IL. and grew up in South Holland,

IL. where he attended St. Jude the Apostle Parish and Grade School.

He graduated from Quigley Seminary South in 1985. He received his

B.A. in Philosophy from Niles College of Loyola University Chica-

go in 1989 and his Master of Divinity degree in 1994 and his Doctor

of Ministry degree in 2003, both from the University of St. Mary of

the Lake in Mundelein, IL.

Bishop Hicks served as an Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Mercy

Parish in Chicago from 1994 to 1996 and then at St. Elizabeth Seton

Parish in Orland Hills, IL. from 1996 to 1999. From 1999 to 2005,

he lived and ministered at St. Joseph College Seminary as the Dean

of Formation.

In July 2005, with permission from Cardinal Francis George, Bishop

Hicks moved from Chicago to El Salvador to begin his five-year

term as Regional Director of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) in

Central America. NPH is a home dedicated to caring for more than

3,400 orphaned and abandoned children in nine Latin American and

Caribbean countries.

From 2010 to 2014, Bishop Hicks served as the Dean of Formation

at Mundelein Seminary. During that time, he assisted with weekend

Masses at St. Jerome Parish in Rogers Park, Chicago, Ill.

Bishop Hicks was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese by

Cardinal Cupich on January 1, 2015. On September 17, 2018 he was

ordained an Auxiliary Bishop at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.
