ARRANGING BAPTISM Baptism First (Spanish) and Last (English) Sundays each month. Call Parish Center to arrange. Before date is confirmed, parents must have/obtain:
• Registration in SJB Parish: Family from another parish must obtain written permission from “home” parish for Baptism at SJB. • Certificate of Eligibility to Serve as Sponsor: Each Catholic Sponsor (1 required; 2 preferred) must obtain Certificate of Eligibility from “home” parish. Parishes generally do not issue certificates to persons not already registered nor to persons who left the parish more than 6 months previously.
• Letter from Pastor for Christian Witness: One baptized non-Catholic may serve as a Christian Witness and must present Letter of Good Standing from current Christian pastor. A Catholic not eligible to Sponsor may not be Christian Witness.
ARRANGING MARRIAGE
Wedding Planning begins with engaged couple’s meeting a parish priest here at least six (6) months before desired wedding date. Please do not make financial commitments before confirming church date/time.
If a member of the couple was previously married, a Declaration of Nullity (Annulment) of the prior marriage may be necessary. Please contact parish priest for detailed information.
Marriage Convalidation Couples in a civil or non-Catholic religious union without our Church’s explicit permission are not in a valid Catholic marriage. They cannot receive other sacraments or serve as Catholic Sponsors for Baptism and Confirmation. This situation often is easily remedied by “convalidation”, a simple ceremony popularly called “getting a marriage blessed”. Call Parish Center to arrange.

Paper Cuts
It seems I can rarely get through a week without inflicting on myself one of the most painful, most annoying injuries known to the world - yes, the dreaded paper cut!
However, more annoying than the physical paper cuts, which often make my hands look like they have been fending off tiny sword fighters, are spiritual paper cuts. These are the little things that get under our skin and continue to irritate me all day long. They might come in the form of a nearly-empty tube of toothpaste that would require Superman to squeeze out the last bit; a stubborn layer of frost that takes too long to scrape off my windshield; a driver who turns in front of me without signaling; a store clerk who gives me the wrong change; or just a coworker who needs us to be a listening ear when I'm feeling needy myself. Some might consider them bad luck or the results of living in an imperfect society. Others might view them as attacks from Satan. Either way, they can be spiritually draining.
The occurrence of just one of these things can set the tone for the day and point our attitude downhill. Like a physical paper cut, if untreated these spiritual wounds will begin to get irritated and even infected, becoming a true spiritual roadblock. When we find ourselves getting upset by the small stuff, we have to stop and remember all the blessings, big and small, that God has already given us for the day and realize that they far outweigh any minor inconveniences.
When we let these spiritual attacks bother us, we become more irritable with each situation we encounter and eventually our 'paper cuts' become contagious. Our attitude affects how we act and react toward those around us and we become a spiritual paper cut in their day.
To keep from stumbling and becoming stumbling block for others, we must remember what Jesus said in John 16:33, 'In this world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world.' Jesus became one of us so that when He talked about trouble, He would understand it in the natural world, from a human perspective.
In John 14, as He is speaking to his disciples, He says, 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.' Jesus left more than just a greeting of peace, as was common in His time. He left a true peace, even though the little annoyances and the tragedies of life. He also left us the Holy Spirit to comfort and teach us.
We cannot even imagine the agony that Jesus went through as He was whipped, beaten and crucified. It makes our paper cuts look shamefully insignificant.
His promise of peace makes those spiritual paper cuts heal much more easily and equips us with armor to protect ourselves from future injury. As we seek the Lord's peace this week, read Ephesians 6:11 and pray that God will reinforce your spiritual armor against Satan's attacks and the world's paper cuts.

“The music tells the story – the story changes lives!”
THE CROSS AND THE LIGHT is coming to St. John Bosco. Thurs., 3/8:10 AM and 7PM,
Fri., 3/9:10 AM & 7 PM, and Sat., 3/10: 1 PM and 7PM! It’s not just a show; it is an intentional encounter event.
Religious inspiration comes in many forms. Kelly Garver Nieto’s hit her like a ton of Babylon bricks while she was
attending her first-ever Good Friday service in 2000. It was while praying the Stations of the Cross, which uses 14 sequential images to depict the crucifixion of Jesus,
that the former nonbeliever experienced what she calls a “life-changing vision.” “I looked at the altar and saw all
the details of this grand theatrical production,” the entertainer and former Miss Michigan remembers. “And I heard God say, ‘This is why you are here.’ I knew in
my soul that this would become my life’s mission.”

Block Collection: Many thanks to all of our parishioners who contributed to the
Annual Block (Fall) Collection. As of 10/25/17 the total was $22,556.
We ask for those parishioners who have not yet contributed to please do so. It is important to
keep this parish in financial stability. This collection helps us to obtain that goal.
Bringing our Loved Ones to Christ: The Cross and the Light!
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” If Jesus asked us the same question today, how would we respond? Who do people say Jesus is today? Consider the people in your life…your family, your co-workers and your social circles. Do they know Jesus? Many of us know people who have
lost faith, left the Catholic Church, or simply remain indifferent to God and religion. The reasons for this are many and complex, but chances are that these people have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ or
witnessed the power of His love. How can we help them come to know Christ? Consider inviting them to The Cross and the Light, an international, critically acclaimed musical and video surround experience of the greatest
love story of all time. Colin Nykasa, Young Adult Outreach Director of the Archdiocese of New York witnessed the power of this life-changing experience. He said, “It’s Broadway quality. The Cross and the Light is opening a
NEW DOOR in the New Evangelization!” It’s the perfect way for our young people to encounter Christ. Keith Major, Former Franciscan University Marketing Director, said “It’s so visual. My two teenagers usually lose
focus at Christian concerts, but not tonight. They were engaged the entire time. This is NOT just a show or a tool in the New Evangelization. This is GOD’S LANGUAGE and HOW he speaks to his people. And it works.”
Help others grow in their relationship with Christ.
Invite them to one of these shows:
