Dear Parish Family, A most happy Independence Day to you and your loved ones. As Abraham Lincoln said our nation is one that was conceived in liberty. But what does that mean: liberty”? Often we are confused by Secularisms redefinition of liberty and we begin to think that it is the permission to do what ever we will. This is not the Christian view of liberty, nor was it the view of the Founding Fathers. The notion of doing whatever we will is the notion of license, not liberty. Liberty, however, is the power to behave as one ought. It is the power to turn away from vice, and live virtuously. It is the power to choose the good over the evil. The primary responsibility of any state is to ensure that this liberty is protected, and enhanced. In other words, it is the responsibility of the state to foster a society where virtue is chosen over vice. In a republic such as ours it falls on the citizens to create this society more so than it does on the political class. If you want to see a more virtuous, and Christ- centered America, be more virtuous, and be more Christ centered. Be more prayerful. Be more attentive to the needs of your family, and your neighbors. That is where the fabric of a republic is built; this is where liberty rings most loudly. May God bless you, your loved one, and the United State of America. Rev. Edwin C. Dwyer, JCL No Week Day Masses: Fr. Dwyer is on vacation starting Monday, July 6th through July 13th. There will be no week day Masses or individual reconciliation during the week. Fr.
