Covid Management - Fresh Air Provide adequate ventilation of spaces with outdoor air.
Natural ventilation system built in to the school building; air
quality levels are automatically monitored by the system e.g.
levels of CO2. This system then adjusts the flow of air
accordingly.
Open windows, vents and external doors (e.g. before and
after school, between classes, during break and lunch, when
a room is unused, or at other suitable intervals if a space is
occupied for long periods at a time). Especially in rooms
without the natural ventilation system ducts.
Some windows opened for
natural air flow when room is
occupied.
Doors to be left open for air
circulation if they do not

Where possible open windows / vents at least 15 minutes prior
to room occupation.
Air Circulation
Circulation of outside air can be considered to prevent
pockets of stagnant air in occupied spaces. You can do this
by using ceiling fans or desk fans for example, provided good
ventilation is maintained.
The risk of transmission through the use of ceiling and desk
fans is extremely low providing there is good ventilation in the
area it is being used. Source

machinery/air-conditioning-and-ventilation.htm
Air Conditioning Unit (Only in Server Room)
HSE guidance on use of air conditioning systems is followed. Summary
below
The risk of air conditioning spreading Coronavirus (COVID-19)
in the workplace is extremely low as long as there is an
adequate supply of fresh air and ventilation. You can
continue using most types of air conditioning system as
normal
Do not adjust air conditioning systems that mix some of the
extracted air with fresh air and return it to the room as this
increases the fresh air ventilation rate.
Do not adjust systems in individual rooms or portable units as
these operate on 100% recirculation. You should still however
maintain a good supply of fresh air ventilation in the
room. HSE

Regular statutory maintenance completed on heating and
ventilation systems are carried out on the natural ventilation
system and air conditioning unit.
Regular checks on the ventilation system airflow is balanced
and operating correctly
closed on the event of the
alarm being activated.
During cooler
weather consider: reduce the
number of open windows,
reduce the opening
width, rotate the sequence.
It may be necessary to close
them during lessons and
/or have the room heating on
more than normal.
Class Observations – observing students etc. The observer must always wear a fluid resistant face mask

when they are in the bubble.
The observer must observe social distancing – he/she cannot
be within 1m of another bubble member.
A chair should be provided by the observed staff member for
the observer. This would ideally be by the door and away
from any children.
After the observation the observer must remove the face
mask and dispose of inside a plastic ‘nappy’ type bag.
The observer must wash their hands thoroughly in line with
NHS guidance.
Any book scrutiny or associated work scrutiny must be done
outside of the observation in line with the above guidance of
book monitoring.
Feedback will be given over Teams and any documents will
have to be signed electronically.

the mentor is working with children in spaces that are not
being used by other groups of children.
All windows to be open whilst working with children to ensure

place, to observe other teacher the TF mentor will wear a
fluid resistant mask at all times and will sit at the entrance of
the classroom.

DfE guidance
Internal Contact Tracing To try to minimise the number of staff and children being sent home
when there is a positive case:
Introduction for all staff to ‘Contact Tracing for Educational
Settings’ document. To enable record of who has been in
contact with whom. All staff affected by a bubble closure to
complete the form.
Reinforcement of the rules: What classes as a close contact?
A person who maintained appropriate social distancing (over
2 metres) would not be classed as a ‘close contact’ and
would not be required to self-isolate.
The main categories that would lead to someone being
identified as a ‘close contact’ in an education setting are as
follows:
Face to face contact with a confirmed case for any length of
time, within 1 metre, including:
o being coughed on
o a face-to-face conversation,
o unprotected physical contact (skin to skin)
o travelling in a small vehicle with a person who is a
confirmed case.
Extended close contact (between 1 and 2 metres) for more
than 15 minutes, with a confirmed case.
![Page 20: Safety risk assessment form · 2021. 1. 18. · Risk assessment form / Safety Team / Jan ‘20 Refer to school specific staff rota protocols Series of guidance documents produced](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022071401/60ea680b4463507e444334df/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)

Contact must have taken place during the ‘infectious period’
of the index case which is defined as: 48 hours before the
onset of symptoms (or the date of test if they don’t have
symptoms) until 10 days after symptoms started (or the date
of the test if they do not have symptoms).
Children will eat in class groups e.g., children eating hot
dinners will sit on tables with their classmates. Children eating
packed lunches will sit on tables with their classmates.
Positive Case:
In the event of a positive case – all affected staff and children
kept in classroom until internal tracking is completed.
Year group staff complete their own Contract Tracing Form...
and a member of staff carries out the Contact Tracing Form
for the child.
The people who can be classed as a close contact will be
determined by the SLT.
Decision to send home made on agreement with two most
senior members of staff.
Identified close contacts sent home following normal bubble
closure routines.
Additional Measures Lockdown – January Explanation to staff that they can come into school during
lockdown. All have had access to the additional guidance
document explaining:
o You must follow the guidance in the Staff Risk
Assessment.
o You cannot bring a family member into school e.g.

o You must stay in your own physical bubble and have
as minimal contact with other people as possible e.g.
your year group bubble (but even in this case remain
social distancing).
o You can only come into school from Wednesday 6th
January if you have completed your individual risk
assessment and returned it to Ewan, Anne or Nighat –
whoever is appropriate.
o You must wear a mask in any shared areas e.g.
