VILLAGER BEATSHOP SMALL: Re-

member to shop small this holiday season! No, that doesn’t mean cut back on gift-giving. It means to do as much shopping as you can at the locally owned stores, shops, boutiques and small businesses that are the life-blood of our area. When you shop at these local stores, like Pzazz, Ce-ramika or Mademoiselles at

Williamsburg Square, Vivid Jewelers or Bay True Value Hardware in Bay Village, or Nicky Nicole at Crock-er Park, you are making a real difference. Addition-ally, local holiday boutiques that serve as fundraisers for area organization are a good choice for gifts. Why give your money to huge corporate entities? Support the local businessman who

relies on neighborhood support for their livelihood this holiday season. Skip the big box stores when you can. Shop small instead!

WHS SADD members Annie Hoelscher and Barbara Bobal celebrate the student organization’s 30th anniversary.

Nov. 30, 2011, was proclaimed Westlake High School SADD Day in hon-or of the student organiza-tion’s 30th anniversary.

SADD – Students Against Destructive De-cisions – was originally known as Students Against Driving Drunk. Established in 1981, SADD has led the way in reducing destruc-tive decisions by youth,

SADD is the nation’s leading youth-based peer-to-peer preventer, with nearly 10,000 chapters across the United States and 350,000 active student par-ticipants. The WHS SADD chapter claims 40 regular

members. To celebrate the anniversary WHS SADD members painted signs and made a balloon arch.

Throughout the year SADD sponsors an an-nual lock-in at the West-lake Recreation Center, members attend an annual SADD seminar and present awareness campaigns, in-cluding Prom Promise and Red Ribbon Week.

More than $45 mil-lion in improvements at St. John Medical Center (SJMC) have received final approval from the hospital’s board of directors, paving way for implementation of Phases 1 and 2 of the hos-pital’s modernization plan. Phases 3 and 4 will cost an additional $6.4 million

The board’s approval sets in motion the mobili-zation of contractors and subcontractors on the St. John Medical Center cam-pus. The projects are the re-sult of the hospital’s 5-year strategic/modernization plans, a comprehensive as-

sessment of the hospital and its environment. The plan also includes new ser-vices or expansion of ser-vices such as the UH Neu-rological Institute at SJMC (which opened in April 2011), expanded and re-located pain management center (October 2011),

Boy, it seems like winter has fi-nally come this year. The weather is always unpredictable in Cleveland and that certainly shows in our win-tertime.

Life is also unpredictable, to be sure. I come to the office everyday and deal with patients who woke up in the morning, were having a bagel for breakfast, broke a tooth and now they are sitting in my office. They surely did not expect that when they woke up in the morn-ing. I deal with patients who have a nagging toothache for months. Then all of a sudden, in the middle of their work-day, their cheek swells up to the size of a baseball because of the infected tooth.

A Drop of Prevention…Life is surely unpre-

dictable, but your dental care doesn’t need to be. Regular dental checkups are really magic in helping prevent problems in your mouth. Just like anything else, the sooner you find the problem, the easier it is to treat and the less expen-sive it will be.

The economy is on everyone’s mind now. Pre-ventative dental care will help save you a lot of mon-ey in the long run.

I can guarantee you one thing. After being a dentist for over 30 years – if you have a toothache or some kind of dental prob-lem, it will not go away on its own! As a matter of fact, the longer you wait, the

more expensive it will be. December is the best

time of the year to come in for a dental exam and a check up. If you have den-tal insurance, you should use it before the end of the year because that is when it expires and you will never get that benefit back again. If you don’t use your dental benefits, you are literally burning one hundred dol-lar bills.

Please call our office today at 440-892-1810 for any of your dental needs, including a second opinion. A drop of prevention now can save you from loads of aggravation later. Please call us for an appointment now! We are here to help you smile.

The Star Libraries is a system that ranks public libraries across the country based upon statistical per-formance measures gath-ered by the Institute of Mu-seum and Library Services. WPPL received three out of five stars in the ranking.

The statistics used to create the Star Libraries ranking include circulation per capita, visits per capita, program attendance per capita and public Internet

computer use per capita.“The Star ranking is a

reflection of how heavily this community uses the library and how much they value the materials and ser-vices that are offered,” said Library Director Andrew Mangels.

Westlake Porter Pub-lic Library is also highly ranked in the Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings, in which it is #1 in the nation among libraries in its population category. It is one of 37 libraries in Ohio named Star Libraries.

Community West Foundation Presents....Moonlight in the City

Moonlight in the City is an annual fundraiser supporting programs at Lutheran Hospital. Always an elegant event for an important cause, this year’s Moonlight in the City was hosted by Community West Foundation at Westwood Country Club on Nov. 19. Over 300 guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, raised funds through lively auctions and topped off the evening with music and dancing. Community West Foundation Chair Emeritus Dr. Ted Castele made the evening special with wel-coming remarks. No one defines the spirit of Lu-theran Hospital more than Dr. Castele, who served as Director of Radiology, Chief of Staff, Chairman of their Foundation Board of Trustees, and in many other capacities at Lutheran Hospital for 38 years. Guests had a chance to meet Brian Donley, MD, senior vice president of surgical operations at Lutheran Hospital, who will become the new hospital president beginning Jan. 1 2012. He was introduced by Mary Kennedy, RN, BSN, MBA, who currently serves as interim presi- Incoming Lutheran Hospital President

It wasn’t supposed to end this way.

But it was still a great season for the Avon High football team despite losing in the OHSAA Div. II finals at Massillon’s Paul Brown Stadium Friday night.

The 42-28 defeat at the hands of undefeated Madison Trotwood left the Eagles with a 13-2 record on the year. The Eagles also won regional and West Shore Conference champi-onships in 2011.

Over the past two sea-sons, the Avon High foot-ball team has gone 23-2 and won the WSC champi-

An open letter to our customers and friends:

Wouldn’t you love to go to sleep at night knowing the home of your dreams would be waiting for you in the

morning? Thanks to Ohio Family Realty’s “Create Your Own Search”, now you can!

Ohio Family Realty launched their new state of the art website – OhioFamilyRealty.com. Voted the Best Real

Estate Website in Ohio, if offers many features to make the home buying process a success; the “Create Your Own

Search” being one of them.

“Create Your Own Search” is an exclusive feature to Ohio Family Realty’s website. Without having to submit

any personal information, such as name, address, or phone number, a person enters their search criteria for

their desired home just one time. After this information is entered, sit back and relax while your home finds you.

You can change your search criteria at any time. Based on the criteria selected, the computer will search for

matching homes for four months.

Traditional real estate websites simply do not offer the same unique search criteria that the “Create Your Own

Search” does. With this custom search, a broad range of criteria can be chosen; from finished basement or garage

size, to first floor master bedroom, brick exterior, or school district. If a house comes up that you do not like,

simply delete it. When you find a home that you like, call Ohio Family Realty to make arrangements to see it.

When you do find your dream home, Ohio Family Realty’s “Lifetime Realtor Program” is another ground-

breaking feature that you cannot pass up! “Through the ‘Lifetime Realtor Program’, after we represent a buyer

on a purchase, we will sell that house without charging a commission – whether they decide to sell in ten months

or ten years. More importantly, if you are struggling to sell your old house, we will not charge you a commission

on that house either,” explains Ohio Family Realty Broker, Mike DeAnna.

There has never been a better time to find the house you have always wanted. Your dream home is waiting! Let

OhioFamilyRealty.com help you begin the search today!

Sincerely,

Michael J. DeAnna, Broker
