Traveling
I’m always open to learning new skills and ways of thinking
I’ve had a penchant for hand-crafting and problem-solving since childhood. Attending Syracuse University to study Industrial + Interaction Design has neatly pulled my skills together into a nice, well-rounded package that I’d like to share. My intention was to focus on furniture and jewelry design, but I’ve learned that the realms of possibilities are endless in the general design field. I am interested in working in an environment where I will absolutely learn and grow.

In the words of Albert Einstein, “If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it”.
10
What’s more important, the journey or the destination?
This year I have been working tirelessly on my thesis project. It’s been a long road, and I’ve hit many bumps, but I realize that each “failure” has positively influenced me to reach my final destination.
I’ve conducted experiments off many design philosophies such as “Reductio Ad Absurdum” - taking an argument to a ridiculous extreme in order to prove a point.
It’s been a lot of fun.
Most days, my desk will look like this as I try to draw connections and find design opportunities
11
As time passes, you collect and rearrange pages. Maybe after a few months you can see a drastic increase in size and take pride in how active your relationship has been over that time.
12
GROWING ARTIFACT
The idea here is that your OURTIFACT will grow as your relationship grows. By exchanging pages with your friends or loved ones, your book will start to expand.
The book is bound by a simple rubber band to allow you to easily unbind and rearrange your book.
This is a living object that is meant to reflect the growth and evolution of your relationship over time.
13
For this activity, one person simply has to trace her hand. She can decorate it however she feels. The point is for her recipient to have a nice keepsake and to sense her interaction
GUIDANCE
Not everyone is creative, or at least, not everyone is confident in their creativity.
14
A grandmother who might not get to see her granddaughter very often is delighted to be able to touch her granddaughter’s fingerprint and read her little story
IMPRINTS
I wanted to capture the nuance of touch. I feel that the whole experience of interacting with an object is entirely changed with the notion that someone else has too interacted with this object. It is especially special knowing that a loved one has touched the very item that you behold. To feel the imprints is crucial.
There is something special about seeing where someone smudged the ink a little or left a coffee. These small details are what are lost in digital communication. These small details are what heighten the experience.
Many of the pages in the OURTIFACT are designed specifically to get the user to leave these kinds of marks.
15
I tried to bring a little fun and surprise into the mix. It is important the using this object never becomes a task that seems repetitive to its users
ACTIVE PAGES
It’s also important to note here that I didn’t want to completely exclude technology... It is to integrated into our daily lives to ignore. So I tried to incorporate it into some of the prompts
16
3-DIMENSIONALITY
Included within the bind of OURTIFACT are unique pages that are designed to be popped out and assembled. I conducted an interview in the research phase of my thesis and learned about a specific couple’s solution to making communicating long distance a little more fun. They simply mailed images of funny animals to each other with the instruction to caption the picture.
They opted for this activity because they lived on different continents and mailing care packages got pricey.
I saw an opportunity to still be able to mail objects between users, but still keeping the cost down. You can mail activity cards via standard mail for pennies, and after simple construction, your recipient gets 3D artifact.
After filling out the card, it can be mailed out and transformed into a dimensional object with ease.
17
Since the mid 1700’s, the postal services in the united states have been a pivotal element in communication between people. But in the last decade, it’s begun to dive into a downward spiral.
It’s a shame because the postal service offers so many benefits, including reliable standards in sizes, prices, and general dependability.
I’ve designed Ourtifact and its pages to meet the dimensions of a small flat- rate shipping box.
The stamps are USPS approved
The pages, when torn out, can be sent as a postcard or can be placed snugly within a standard size envelope.
ANALOG
Here we see one of my participants uses the blank stamp as spot for her to leave a kiss. There are so many opportunities to make the stamps unique to your relationship
I propose blank USPS approved stamps that function through the use of QR codes.
18
DIGITAL
OURTIFACT is more than just a kit, it’s a system. Part of this system involves a blog where users can contribute how they use their OURTIFACT or share information and advice about relationships

VOYEUR
BRIEF:
We were given mini projectors with the simple objective of ...
CREATING AN EXPERIENCE FOR OTHERS
RESPONSE:
I fabricated a small projection box and mounted it to the back of the door.
The projector looped a video of a woman going about her daily routine in the privacy of her room.
RESULT:
It was an interesting experiment to observe whether people were comfortable being voyeurs for a moment or if they carried on.

The current state of the warehouse.

One proposal was to create a “sensory tour” where visitors could walk the halls and learn about the history of the factory and town, while also experiencing the aromas of crafting beer
OVERVIEW:
Deep in the Adirondacks there is a town called Tupper Lake. And in this town there is an abandoned warehouse that once manufactured wooden spoons. The assignment was to come up with a strategy to revitalize both the old warehouse, but also the surrounding neighborhood. My team’s solution was to convert the building into a educational brewery/museum.

Ideation Madness!
Just a snapshot of the dozens of small changes I made to finally reach our logo
30
BRANDING
The logo I developed for our brewery plays off the nickname for Tupper Lake as being the “crossroads of the Adirondacks”. The logo is translated onto various products like the growler and beer tap.
Our team name was Trout. I designed a logo that was then translated onto promotional items like an Adirondack chair and our business cards.
