S8PA 2nd ANNUAL RECITAL will be held at Waccamaw High School, (2412 Kings River

Rd, Pawleys Island, SC 29585), on Tuesday, June 14th at 7:00 PM.

RECITAL FEE is $60 per single family dancer, $40 for second family dancer and $20 for

that will be dancing in recital.

protection as well as a professional recital DVD... 1 DVD per family.

All Recital Fees are due on May 15th and will be deducted from your credit card on file

or check you need to submit your payment inside an envelope with your child’s information

and what the payment is for on the outside. COSTUMES will be passed out at the beginning of each class as they come in. There will be a

Costume booklet hanging outside the dance room doors, please make sure you put it back in hanger

after reading. Costumes will not be distributed unless all balances have been reconciled with the

office. If you have questions regarding balances, please call the studio office at 843-902-6186.

RECITAL TICKET SALES will begin on Monday, May 9th, 2016. Please be sure ALL

balances (tuition, late fees, returned check fees, performance fees) are paid, or you will not

be permitted to buy your recital tickets. Please take note that this includes May tuition.

Ticket prices are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door for everyone. Tickets will

continue to be sold at the studio during regular office hours, and will be sold at the door.

When selling 10 tickets, you will receive 2 for FREE!

DRESS REHEARSAL will be held at Waccamaw High School on Monday, June 13th, 2016

beginning at 3:00 pm with the ‘littles’. Only one parent or guardian is permitted at dress

rehearsal for each family. All dancers must attend their scheduled dress rehearsal, or they

will not be allowed to dance in the show. Flash photography and videotaping is permitted

for rehearsal ONLY. A detailed Dress Rehearsal schedule is attached.

Page 3: S8 2016 recital packet

It is VERY important that everyone is on time for the dress rehearsal, we have a limited

amount of time to use the auditorium and must proceed ON TIME. Once you arrive at dress

rehearsal drop off your child's costumes, make-up and accessories in the designated

dressing room located behind stage and in the hallway behind the auditorium assigned to

your class. Please read the class list on each dressing room door to find your changing area.

The auditorium seats will have your class times located on the outside of the row for you

and your child to sit in. After your child practices his or her dance you will need to pick

them up in their designated dressing room. If they do not have a second dance you can

either sit quietly in the auditorium with your dancer and watch the other routines or you

may go home and rest up for the Recital the following day.

• It is IMPORTANT to mark all of your items with your child’s name. We are not responsible

for lost or stolen items.

• Parents are not allowed back stage at any time.

• Please have your child dressed in their first costume with all accessories, tights and correct

shoes. We need to make sure everyone is on the same page with their costumes for our

first big show on Tuesday!

• After your child has performed his/her first routine, if he/she is in another dance, he/she

will need to get dressed in their second costume and prepare for their second dance

number. Please go back to auditorium and sit in the appropriate spot for that dance to wait

for our rehearsal attendant to come get you.

• Hair and Make-up is not mandatory for dress rehearsal.

• Each dance is allotted time to practice once or twice. Dress rehearsal is a very, very busy

time for everyone. It is very important that you are in your section ready to go when we are

ready for you.

• For your convenience, you may want to make other arrangements for siblings.

• We do not suggest you leave your costume/s in the dressing room after dress rehearsal.

Please take them home so you can reorganize and make sure they are all clean and ready

to go for the next day. You MUST have all correct pieces and or items for your costume/s.

PARENT INFORMATION FOR REHEARSAL

Parents will have open seating in the rear of the auditorium. Note: ONLY Parents and or

guardians are allowed at Dress Rehearsal. PLEASE no friends, extended family, etc. This is

a CLOSED REHEARSAL…Open ONLY to Dancers and one parent or guardian. You DO NOT

have to stay for rehearsal, once your dancer is settled, you may leave. HOWEVER, all Combo

dancers must be picked up immediately following their dance. We do not have child care

for them.

PROFESSIONAL RECITAL PHOTOS will be taken at the dance studio on Saturday,

May 21st, 2016 beginning at 11:00am and packages will be available for purchase by cash,

check or credit card made payable to Wayne’s View Photography. Please see the attached

photo prices to have your payment ready on picture day. Please have your dancer ready

(costume, hair, makeup) 20 minutes before your scheduled time.

All dancers should be wearing the appropriate costume pieces, tights, and required shoes

for their class. No parents will be allowed into the photo area. After the picture is taken,

the dancers will be escorted back to their parents. Please utilize the dressing room areas

for all changing NOT the lobby. You will be contacted by email when the photos arrive.

Page 4: S8 2016 recital packet

days will be destroyed.

up. Hair and makeup does not have to be done for the rehearsal ONLY the actual performance.

TIGHTS must be worn for each dance (boys should wear socks that match their dance

shoe color.) All classes will be given tights with their recital costumes, however a back-up

pair is strongly recommended. Extra tights can be ordered through Lisa by May 1st, 2016.

NO UNDERWEAR should be worn by girls, as it can stick out of the top or bottom of

your dancer’s costume and show onstage (that is what the tights are for).

NO NAIL POLISH OR JEWELRY is allowed onstage (small gold or silver post earrings

for newly pierced ears are the only exception).

NO VIDEOTAPING OR FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY Pictures and videos may be

taken at the DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY. This is for the safety and enjoyment of everyone at

the show. Professional videography of the performance by Bob Vox Media Productions.

Part of any agreement with a professional videographer is the stipulation that no

photography or videography be taken during the actual performance. Should you attempt

to circumvent this reasonable request, you will be asked to leave the auditorium

immediately. No refund on tickets will be given as a result of such expulsion.

Page 5: S8 2016 recital packet

until after their performance. If your dancer has a costume change or needs assistance,

you may order a wristband from the office that will allow access to the dressing room.

by the same parent or guardian. Please send your dancer with activities, coloring books,

etc. and snacks and drinks that won’t stain his or her costume, i.e. pretzels, crackers, water,

etc. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

out of auditorium unless absolutely mandatory. All crying babies need to go out into lobby with a

parent until he or she has calmed down. When dropping off your child in the dressing rooms prior

to the recital, please make sure the room mother knows where their next costume change is along

with all of their costume needs such as make-up, shoes, tights, etc. Make sure all items are marked

with your child's name on every single piece we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. No child

will be able to be dropped off unless you check in with the room mother so she will know who is

picking that child up. You MUST sign your child in and out of the dressing rooms, the room mother

will have a sheet for your convenience.

• After your child has completed their dance routine/routines, ONE parent must go back and pick up

the student from the dressing room. If he or she has more than one dance and is not old enough to

dress themselves, we ask that you go back to where they are held and change your child for their

name and tape it to a wall or desk to “claim” an area where his or her items will be kept. The door

As our costumes come in please keep a few things in mind...

• All dancers will need correct shoes and tights. We have added into the price of your costume the

correct tights for your child's class. Tights will be included in bag with costume. If you want to order

and extra pair of tights, please email Lisa A.S.A.P.

• ALL Tights are NON- Shiny.

• Each child was measured for their costumes and costumes are ordered with those measurements.

In most cases the costume will fit well. In some cases, the costume may be too big because your

child fell into the smallest size available. If your child has gone through a sudden growth spurt, the

costume might be snug, but here are a few things we can do. We will do everything we can to make

the costumes work.

• If the costume’s leotard is too short in length we can add an extender piece to the bottom

area and that should make it fit more comfortably, you must leave the costume with us to do

this, and the teacher must see the costume on and decide that it needs the extender piece.

• If pants are too short, we will see if there is someone in the class we can swap with.

• If the costume is too long, such as pants…. Pants are made to fit the waist and then you should

be able to cut off the length without having to sew anything.

• If the leotard is too big you should be able to take the straps in by pinning them in the back.

• If the overall costume is just totally wrong, we will try and get another size or see if there is

someone in class that we can swap costumes with. You must leave the costume with us if we

need to try and send it back to the company for another size. Once the new size comes in if

they are able to get us one in time, that is all we can do. If it still is too big or too small, we must

make the best of it. Once you have the costume at home PUT IT AWAY!!!!!!

• This is not a dress up costume yet; please do not allow children to play in the costume until after the

shows are over.

• Tutus and dresses should be hung up to allow them to un-wrinkle. Do not attempt to iron any costume.

Low temperature steam may help netting and dresses, but the emphases should be VERY low

temperature.

• All costumes that have shoulder straps are to be SEWN straight down the back of the shoulder… they

do not cross in the back and pinning is unacceptable. No tying around the neck!

• All dancers need to have hair all the way back in a ‘perfect’ bun for recital and dress rehearsal; no

bangs, no pony tails. Bangs cause shadows on the face under stage lights. If your child has short hair, all

hair around the face still needs to be pulled back, use gel and lots of hair pins. Youtube.com has many

videos that can help show you how to create a ballet bun. Make it fun... play beauty salon with your kids

until you find a way to get all of the hair back.

• Make up. All dancers need to wear make-up, including the babies. Blush, mascara, eye shadow and

lips. The older kids and adults need to wear false eyelashes. The stage lights washout the color in the

face. Pinks and purples are great.

• No panty lines under costumes, this is why we all have tights under our costumes they serve the

purpose of undergarments. Please DO NOT wear panties under your costumes!

• No finger nail polish

Page 19: S8 2016 recital packet

• No jewelry

• Label all personal items with name and phone number- I.e. shoes…

• All tap shoes in younger classes need to be tan and ballet shoes pink. Boys wear black shoes in all

classes. Unless otherwise specified.

• Under no circumstances are you to allow your child to wear their costume before the recital. AFTER

the show is over unless they are on a team they can use it for dress up and choreograph their own

routines for you at home. Make sure you tag me on Facebook, wink.

DANCERS ARE ASKED TO FOLLOW THESE VERY IMPORTANT GUIDELINES…

1. All Dancers must respect and listen to their room chaperones.

2. Students MUST remain with their chaperones backstage! Students must stay in their designated

rooms until called to leave.

3. No chewing gum.

4. No loud talking in the hallways and wings.

5. Please leave valuables at home. If you choose to bring handheld games, DVD players, iPods, etc,

neither Studio 8 performing arts nor St James High School are responsible for the lost or stolen

items.

6. Quiet games, cards, books, are wonderful to bring. Crayons and colored pencils with coloring

books are fine, but we ask that students do NOT bring markers or pens.

7. With the exception of water bottles and a finger friendly costume friendly light snack, PLEASE- no

candy or drinks in the dressing rooms or stage areas. THESE ITEMS WILL BE TAKEN AWAY. Please

have all dancers eat a wonderful lunch/dinner before coming to the school.

8. All dancers MUST keep their space picked up at ALL times. Please keep all personal items in a

labeled bag.

9. Most importantly - Respectful, courteous behavior is expected at all times. We are very grateful

to have such a lovely facility. Let us please show our appreciation by cleaning up after ourselves and

conducting ourselves as wonderful young ladies and gentlemen. Please cheer each other on and

build each other up.

10. The only time dancers are allowed in the backstage wings is when you are waiting to go on stage.

OLDER STUDENTS: Please remember the example you present to our younger dancers. Give

them love, encouragement and be wonderful role models for them to look up to.
