R01 CA229834-01 Pruitt (PI) 2018-2023 Revisiting Prior Cancer as an Exclusion Criterion for Cancer Clinical Trials

This study will generate evidence required to objectively reconsider the exclusion of cancer survivors with newly diagnosed (incident) cancer from cancer clinical trials. Specifically, in two aims, we will 1) systematically review how the prior cancer exclusion criterion is incorporated in NCI-sponsored trial protocols and 2) evaluate the impact of prior cancer on cause-specific and all-cause mortality using SEER-Medicare data for older patients with six common and deadly cancers: breast, colorectal, kidney, liver, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and pancreas. Role: PI Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 73436 Pruitt, Leonard (MPI) 2016-2018 A Multisector Solution to Build a Culture of Health among Food Insecure Populations in Dallas County

Goals: The aims of this $460,000 grant are to: 1) Strengthen the evidence base for understanding health among food insecure populations by expanding and improving the scope and reach of the Hunger Center Longitudinal Database, and using this resource, 2) Evaluate the impacts on health of a novel, first-in-class model of community-based food re-distribution.
