The “S:” Drive is for STAFF

• The “S:” drive has many different FOLDERS

– One folder for each building• Within each building, one folder for each

Department

• Sharing between departments is also possible

The “S:” DriveCan be visualized of as something like this:

Etc…

Separate “Folders”Each folder holds a separate school.

Since most staff work at just one school, you can basically think of the folder that holds your school as being “THE” S: Drive.

• Wordprocessing• Spreadsheets• Pictures• Whatever!

But…

• But only Teachers can see stuff in the TEA folder• only Front Office staff can see in the BA folder• The BLD folder is for sharing between departments.

shared areas.

Best Practices:

• Start small – make one folder in your department’s folder

• Ask others – Your TOA, the Helpdesk, other staff members

• Practice with a colleague – Make “test” shared folders

• Show off - Help others by sharing your BEST work

• Invite others – Even collaboration needs a kick start.

While classroom lectures and discussions, are the basic way that teachers and students exchange information… another way is

FOLDERS

13

Teacher and students

Student to student(via the Team folder)

Teacher finds/creates content and puts in into the hand out folder and…

Students go to the handout folder and get their copies.

Hand InHand In

Hand OutHand Out

TeamTeam

Students do their work/test and then hand it in. Not allowed to change answers, copy others.

You can have one team or a hundred team folders

Note – Students can READ/COPY from ANY teachers’ hand out folder.

Teachers find or create or change files (content) for students to see (read/copy) or use for practice on or complete as an assignment. Favorites (web links) can be placed here too

Teachers can organize the hand in folders, one for each class,

project, test, whatever.

Note – Hand In folders are MUCH less tedious than going through email after email to download attachments.

Students copy and paste (or drag) files to the hand in folders. They cannot change another student’s work. Or delete their

own for that matter. Its like a one-way letter slot

Teachers can have one team, or many. They can facilitate Teacher-Student collaboration…

Or student-student collaboration. With the teacher just monitoring or occasionally guiding…

Sure, taken all at once it looks chaotic and overwhelming…(This is just TWO teachers)

But there really are simple rules facilitating it all

Really, the only difference is that two or more teachers share a common set of hand in, hand out and team folders.

20

So, that’s it.

S: driveCreate as many folders/files as you want within your department. When you want to share with another department, call the helpdesk and they’ll make a new folder branching off of the BLD folder.

T: drive Create as many folder/files in your “Hand In” and “Hand out”folders as you want Ask your TOA to create whatever Team folders you want. Be sure to also give your TOA the list of students who should be a part of that team. If two or more teachers need to share folders, have your TOA make a new group.
