These King Henry VIII College Commonwealth Scholarships for Sixth Formers promise to be a positively life-transforming opportunity for those fortunate and talented enough to be a recipient of a Scholarship award.

One of the avowed strengths of the Commonwealth is its celebration of diversity and shared inheritance. The holders of these Scholarships from around the globe will enrich the life of King Henry VIII College in exactly that way. They will enhance our already vibrant school community, promoting the international outlook and dynamic we are creating here.

Our Commonwealth Scholars will surely help us build on our core values of mutual respect, tolerance, academic rigour, and self-belief. I have no doubt whatsoever that their achievements as Scholars - and in all they do in their later lives - will glorify both King Henry VIII College and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Scholarships at King Henry VIII are a principal part of our commitment to recognising exceptional talent and nurturing or encouraging outstanding achievement.

We are looking for students who are role models for their peers and will contribute to the thriving community at KH8. We support and challenge our scholars to develop their leadership skills, communication and presentation skills, as well as their dedicated area of scholarship.

Your children will flourish with us throughout their school life, and we encourage them to look towards our Sixth Form as a stepping stone to their higher education. If they are considering entering our Sixth Form, they can expect to be supported by a bespoke pastoral support programme that will prepare them for being global citizens.

Our small classes ensure that we know your children and have the time to support them with their learning. They will be challenged to be independent learners and creative thinkers so that they can adapt to their university environment wherever they choose to study. As an independent Sixth Form, we have links with universities across the world and can help to prepare our students for a wide range of higher education pathways.

Scholars are an essential part of our academic community and we warmly welcome applications from ambitious/aspirational students. I look forward to discussing this opportunity with your children in the near future.

The Sixth Form academic scholarship ‘paper’ is an issue-based, discursive exercise. Candidates are given a short period of time to select a topic from a list and to prepare for a discussion of their selected theme. This paper expects candidates to display advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of scientific, ethical, socio-political, geographical and historical issues. Opinions and strength of arguments in written responses are sought, and it is hoped that maturity, flair and originality are displayed.

The interview will involve a discussion of the views they presented in their scholarship paper. Candidates’ ability to reason, analyse, and argue their cases will be examined during the interview.
