Somerset: Places to go

RSPB West Sedgemoor nature reserve

A haven and refuge for ground nesting

and over-wintering birds...

What to expect:

Events - meadow walks (p53, 54)

Restricted access to protect nesting birds

Public footpaths around the edge of the moor

West Sedgemoor part of England’s largest remaining wetmeadow systems in the Somerset Levels.

Finding us: The low-lying fields of West Sedgemoor arein the near vicinity of Swell Wood and thevillage of Curry Rivel but its access isrestricted to our publicised guided walks asit is difficult to get close to the wildlife andthe site is very sensitive to disturbance.

There are public footpaths around the edgeof the reserve. Signage of these paths islimited in places but we are currentlyworking with neighbours to improve this.OS map usage is essential to find your way around.

Parking is available in Curry Rivel ST 391252 and Swell Wood ST 360238.There is an excellent network of footpathsto the west of Curry Rivel that providesuperb views over the reserve.
