As we continue to adapt and respond to the ever changing restrictions and conditions, again thank you for the on-going support. Hopefully, next week we shall see all playgrounds open, parents onto school grounds but not yet invited into classrooms and the opening of the library and more resources going home.

One thing I would like to highlight as something so positive from these COVID-19 restrictions has been the RESILIENCE demonstrated by all students. Resilience has been defined in many ways; [and is often referenced when people are able to readily adapt and continue] normal functioning despite…disruptions, or changes in demands. World Health Organisation

As we start to return to new routines, I ask of parents if they can continue to support some of the behaviours, practices and expectations that have become evident over these recent weeks. Students have become more independent and as a result, resilient, particularly at drop off and pick up routines each day. In discussion with staff, we are keen to continue this growth and development of each child as the positivity has continued with classroom behaviours and social interactions.

Resumption of the school calendar

In discussion with the Cluster Principals, Term Three will see the recommencement of school events and activities – as per the direction from the Department of Health. We will not be moving events / activities that have been cancelled in Semester One into Semester Two, as our calendar of events is already very full. Like you, we are keen to have all students participating in the inter-school events and activities our cluster schools enjoy so much, so please check out our updated calendar of events.

PARENTS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

THANK YOU WOODSIDE Thank you to Woodside for their generous donation of four boxes of hand sanitiser. We continue to wash and sanitise our hands regularly and practice good hygiene.

Until further direction from Department of Education and Department of Health we continue to ask parents to not accompany their children onto school grounds. If your child is late to school, please walk them to the Administration office to sign them in and they will walk to class from there. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

LABELLING CLOTHES Please ensure all items that come to school with your child are labelled so we are able to return them if they happen to find their way into lost property. This includes jumpers, lunchboxes and drink bottles. Parents and students are always welcome to call into the Administration office to check the Lost Property box.

DON’T FORGET TO DRINK WATER With the cooler weather upon us, it is still very important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Please remind your children to keep up their daily intake.

CHEMICAL SCIENCE

PAJAMA DAY IN WHIMBREL 3

This term The Roebuck Primary School students are exploring Chemical Sciences.

Chemical science is the study of materials and their properties (what things are made of and what they can do) and the behaviour of substances (how they react if they are mixed, heated or cooled).

Our first few lessons have been designed to capture the students' interest and to find out what they think they already know. Our lessons also provide hands on experiences of exploring change, materials and matter.

Mrs Blackley, Science Specialist

Whimbrel 3 have been displaying their Six Kinds of Best and have earned 200 points on their Reward Chart!

The students had a class vote and decided that as their reward they would like to have a Pyjama Day, so on Thursday 28 May the Whimbrel 3 students got to wear their favourite pair of pyjamas to school.

Keep up the good work Whimbrel 3.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN PHYS ED?

Greetings from the Sport Department:

Term Two has greeted students with some cooler weather which has coincided nicely with each class working to develop their personal fitness through a timed run at the beginning of each lesson. A mini cross country will be conducted in week six during their scheduled sport classes. Each class will complete a loop track cross country on the oval during their sport lesson. The positive and enthusiastic approach each individual has taken to work on improving the distance they run each lesson has been commendable.

During the mini cross country each student will aim to run, skip, hop, jog or walk the distances listed below. All physical education classes focus on an inclusive, “have a go” attitude and I look forward to seeing each and every student work to complete the course next week!

Years One and Two 500m Years Four and Five 1.5km

Year Three 1km Year Six 2km

In other sporting news

Faction captains have begun running organised games on the oval during lunchtimes on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. At this stage it is open to Years Four to Six with plans to incorporate all students later this term.

Also, from 7:35am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, Mr Kent and the faction captains are at the school oval offering students the opportunity to complete laps of the cross country track. A great way to start the day .

SCHOOL NEWS

LEAVERS’ SHIRTS

Our Year Sixes are now walking through the school grounds wearing their Leavers’ shirts with pride, after arriving at the beginning of week four.

It was a group decision to go with the same shirt design as last year, inspired by our school theme of migratory birds, the air strip, morse code and the school ripple.

It’s wonderful to see our school colours, in a different design, paraded around the school.

PERUSASIVE TEXT - IBIS 4

Year 3 students in Ibis 4 have been busy learning about how to write Persuasive Text Types this term. They have learnt about the text structure and elements to include to improve their writing. During week five students worked in pairs to produce a shared persuasive text on a topic of their choice. Students implemented all of the skills they had learnt and wrote some incredible texts! Here is a peak at Ularni and Lucy's incredible writing!

TikTok is the Best App Ever!

Wouldn’t you want to chill with the best app ever? When it comes to apps, TikTok is most definitely the best app! It is full of fun dances, funny videos and great memes. No other app can make you as happy and entertained as TikTok can.

First of all, TikTok is full of fun dances. Anyone can do these dances including Grandpas, Grandmas and all the family. By learning these dances you will be entertained and happy. You might even learn some cool new songs, dances or even some cool new moves that you might love! There are cool affects and animations to go with it.

Secondly, TikTok has lots of funny videos that will make you laugh out loud and put a smile on your face. Watching these incredible videos will make your day seem so much brighter! You can show your siblings and you might have a little giggle together, you might even get along when you watch it.

Thirdly, TikTok has great memes. A meme is something that a person made up and made it funny. Memes are great for the whole family. Memes also cure your boredom because you will have something new to read and funny to watch.

For these reasons, it is crystal clear that TikTok is definitely the best app ever! I understand that some people prefer YouTube, but TikTok is better because it is full of cool dances, funny videos and great memes. If you don’t agree, I strongly believe that you should get it and try the app TikTok!

UPGRADES

This term the year three and four students have been watching some short video clips in regards to classroom items. This week they made their own video clip asking their friend to borrow some items all in Indonesian. They had a fun time acting in the videos and should be commended on their efforts.

They used the following phrases in their scripts.

Can I borrow ……? Boleh(kah) saya pinjam ….?

Yes, your allowed – Ya boleh

No, you’re not allowed –Tidak boleh

The school grounds has been a hive of activity lately with the following upgrades happening:

New doors to Whimbrel 4, 5 and 6 all of Ibis.

New air conditioners to Ibis block and the Administration building and staffroom.

Work continues on our observation room and food servery in Greenshank.

OUR TAWNYS

We are very lucky to have such beautiful school grounds that these Tawny Frogmouths chose to make their home in one of our trees.

It is a wonderful thing to see our students so interested in nature and also showing their respect for the birds’ nocturnal habit.

The younger students have been questioning what they eat, when do they sleep, are they the Mum and Dad? Inquisitive young minds at work.

We recently had two parent representative positions become vacant on the Roebuck Primary School Board. We sadly said goodbye to Sheldon Pratley and the other member, Duncan Smith from Cygnet Bay Pearls, decided his work was not done and renominated. As many of you know there were three nominations from the school community so we had to go to an election.

There was a record number of votes cast for a school board position election at Roebuck Primary School and the voting was very close. The two parent representatives that will take up the positions on the board are Kate Jones and the

There is a saying – “There is no health without our mental health”.

Keeping our children’s mental health in mind, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment, strengthening their resilience and supporting children at risk of, or experiencing, mental health difficulties is at the heart of our work.

Be You is an Australian mental health and wellbeing initiative set in early child-hood, primary and secondary schools, led by Beyond Blue. It was developed in response to the National Mental Health Commission Review of Mental Health Programmes and Services Report (2014) which found that there were multiple initiatives promoting social and emotional health and wellbeing for young peo-ple across education settings. All of these initiatives were designed and deliv-ered with the best possible intent, but had the potential to be so much more if they were integrated into one single, national end-to-end education-based program. Our school became a Be You school at the beginning of this year
