Robles Junction Newsletter June 2010

The Altar Valley School District recently received a generous do-

nation of books from the Wickenburg Health Care Alliance. These

books are designed to help parents teach their children about health

and nutrition. There were enough books to give every Altar Valley

School family one set of books. The books were sent home with one

student from each family.

The books were written by Dr. Thomas Matlock, with the help of

his sister Judith Matlock Creighton PHD and their brother Gerald

Matlock PHD. Their goal was to provide easy to understand health

information for families. Together they formed the Wickenburg

Health Care Alliance. The information in these books are for educa-

tional purposes only and are not a substitute for professional medical

advice.

Altar Valley Families received a 2 book set. In the book

“The Health Education Primer” parents found interesting in-

formation concerning a wide variety of Health subjects. Each

subject is written in easy to understand language so parents and

children can explore the information together. This book was

also available in

Spanish.

“Nutrition Lessons for Kids (and Their Parents)” is a book de-

signed for parents to teach their children about nutrition. Each 2

page lesson has a learning objective, a reading assignment, activities

and a question and answer section.

This is a fun way for parents to share the importance of nutrition

with their children.

Trish Hastings-Sargent, Parent Involvement Coordinator, who orga-

nized the distribution of the books said, ―The Altar Valley School

District is very fortunate to have received these wonderful books. I

have heard from several parents how impressed they are with these

books and feel they are a welcome addition to their home libraries.‖

Dr. Gerald Matlock surrounded by the

cases of donated books.

month for Charlotte H. She won

sa contest. Thanks to Cato our dear

Quest, and some cloths from Cato,

too. See ya!

Senior Program:

Hello! Unbelievable but true, we

are in the middle of the year 2010

already. When I was a little girl

(about 10 year ago) and being

catholic, May was the month dedi-

cated to our dear mother, and

mother of the Lord, virgin Mary.

Everyday, after school, we would

dress up in a beautiful white dress

and grab as many flowers as we

could hol in our arms, all kinds of

flowers, and go to church and offer

them to her. I close my eyes and

go back in time picturing all of

these innocent little girls walking

in the middle of the church to give

thanks to the virgin Mary for giv-

ing us her son …. Well?

The senior program is right here

waiting for all of you young ladies,

now seniors to come to the pro-

gram and enjoy all the things we

have to offer: field trips, hot meals

three times a week, arts & crafts,

games, socialization. June was the

month of the Lord in this catholic

tradition, it was the time for the

Quotations About Life

Life is about a blanket too short. You pull it up and your toes rebel, you

yank it down and shivers meander about your shoulder; but cheerful

folks manage to draw their knees up and pass a very comfortable night.

— Marion Howard

Don’t think of retiring from the world until the world will be sorry that

you retire. I hate a fellow whom pride or cowardice or laziness drive

into a corner, and who does nothing when he is there but sit and growl.

Let him come out as I do, and bark.
