Stayed in Manila with Lucia

Went to Malacaan to see Governor Despojol.-- North Borneo project -- ask for pardon for his family- Father but not Paciano and his brother-in-laws.

Rizal was under arrest and deported to Mindanao--detained in Fort Santiago for 9 days--then to Dapitan on July 15, 1892

La Liga Filipina tuned to Cuerpo de Compromisarios--headed by Domingo Franco--support prpaganda movement by sending funds for publication of La Solidaridad

Arrived in Dapitan--Under the supervision of of Capt. Ricardo Carnicero--Given the choice to live in the house of Fr. Antonio Obach or at Carniceros house. --Fr. Obachs conditions: 1) He has to publicly retract his Masonic and anti-church beliefs.2) He has to regularly participate in church activities3) He has to conduct himself as a Spanish subject and a man of religion Rizal decided to live at Carniceros house.

He is allowed to go anywhere and only has to report to Carnicero once a week.

Rizal bought a land in nearby barrio Talisay for 18 pesos.-- He built his clinic and farm

His request for his mother and sisters to be with him in Dapitan was granted

Dona Teodora and Maria stayed with him for a year and a half. On May 4, 1893, Carnicero was replaced by Capt. Juan Sitges

The Jesuits sent Fr. Francisco de Paula Sanchez to entice him back to the Church-- Rizal stood firm on his beliefs.Fr. Pablo Pastella was also sent to convince Rizal.

Rizal used his $500 to beautify the plaza; acacia trees were planted.

Rizal established a school in Dapitan---16 young boys from prominent families --- Instead of charging them for the matriculation, he made the students do community projects for him like maintaining his garden and field--- emphasized balanced on mental and physical developments--- Rizal taught his students how to collect specimens of plans and animals, to develop a love for work and to behave like men. --- Rizal sat on a hammock while the students sat on a long bamboo bench--- Like in Ateneo, the brightest student was called emperor

Hymno a Talisay The poem speaks of hope for tomorrow, despite of the late education. The children believes that despite of being children, they will be their families guardian by means of education.

We are children, children born late, but our spirits are fresh and healthy; strong men shall we be tomorrow that can guard a family right.

The poem also gives pride to the people of Talisay:

Talisayon, the people call us: a great soul in a little body; in Dapitan and all its region Talisay has no match! Rizal as a scientist They explored the jungles and searched for specimens which he sent to museums in Europe, particularly in Dressed Museum.

Rizals most significant contribution in the scientific world are his discovery of three species: Draco rizali flying dragon Apogonia rizali small beetle Rhacophorus rizali rare frog

Rizal obtained the title of expert surveyor (perito agrimensor) from the Ateneo Municipahe widened his knowledge by reading engineering-related books.
