hether it’s anchoring, music, or working with a non-profit organization, Abby has been faced with many exciting

opportunities throughout her career. However, she acknowledges her family and husband for their motivation in her career journey.

Abby Powell Turpin was born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Harrisburg, Ohio. She spent weekends at her grandfather’s 200-acre farm in Lancaster, Ohio. From county fairs to jumping into hay piles in the barn, she considers her upbringing in Ohio “idyllic” and the sort of lifestyle that needs to be preserved for generations.

Abby began her career at KXII (CBS) in Sherman, Texas, where she was the anchor/co-producer of the market’s dominant number-one station. She also produced and wrote the noon broadcast. Later, Abby continued her career at WNWO Today (NBC) in Toledo, Ohio. She single-handedly wrote, edited, and anchored the weekday two-and-a-half-hour morning newscast. Her hard work contributed to her being named runner-up Best Anchor by the Ohio Associated Press. Later on, Abby decided to move her career to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was the anchor and producer of 10/11 News at Noon and 10/11 News at 5 at KOLN (CBS). In addition, she produced and hosted Star City Buzz, a weekly entertainment, arts, and community events segment.

As Abby continues her career at RFD-TV, she is excited to be a part of a complete studio relaunch. In Abby’s words, “There is a sense of fulfillment and pride knowing that we launched this from the ground up—from systems to getting

the broadcast together.” She also considers it a pleasure to have the opportunity to focus on and highlight the hard-working, good people of America—those who are making our country thrive.

Aside from anchoring and producing, Abby enjoys being involved in many different organizations and associations including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Make-A-Wish, American Heart Association, Capital Humane Society,

and recently serves on the Board of Directors for two non-profit art organizations. She volunteers her time by emceeing various events, serving as a spokeswoman for many community events, and writing and producing special reports for broadcasts about various organizations she is passionate about.

Although Abby has gathered an extensive résumé in broadcasting, she also has one in music. In her first years out of college, she performed in shows around the world. Some of her highlights include working for the Walt Disney Company at Tokyo Disney and the National Tour of In the Mood. From singing to anchoring, Abby considers herself fortunate to have a career in which she is able to use a little bit of all her talents.

Abby credits her success to her parents and husband who have pushed her in each step of her career. Abby’s parents have never put a limit on her abilities. Instead, they told her, “You can do anything you want to do.” Living without limitations has allowed Abby to travel the world and has developed her into a diverse person, helping her in the news business. Abby also gives credit to her husband, Travis, who has helped her find a

niche in broadcasting. During their years of dating, Travis encouraged Abby to try broadcasting. In the words of Abby, “I am super fortunate that my family is wonderful and that I married into a wonderful family.” Abby and Travis met in Nashville years ago while they both worked for Gaylord Opryland on the General Jackson. The two married in 2012. The couple has a dog named Rudy, after the Notre Dame Movie.
