TRANSCRIPT
Revelation started life in 1997 as an‘underground’ event in the backroom basement of the GreenwichClub, at the time Perth’s smoothestjazz and music venue.
All works were screened purely on16mm film and the festival alsofeatured live music, poetry andguest presentations. Revelation wasdesigned to showcase a range ofunique and progressive short, feature, documentary, archival andanimated works which were at theforefront of contemporaryunderground filmmaking, at thesame time contextualising theseworks through a variety of curatedarchival programs highlightingpivotal points in independentfilmmaking.
Rapidly outgrowing the intimatesurrounds of the Greenwich Club,Revelation now spans venues acrossPerth and Fremantle and featuressome of the most acclaimed filmsfrom the international film festivalscene and includes gallery andinstallation works, live performances,an academic conference and aunique seminar and masterclassseries.
Revelation’s market penetration istoday at its most comprehensiveever, engaging new local, nationaland international audiences. Morethan 500 films are submitted eachyear for selection from local andinternational filmmakers, and theevent’s screen conferencecomponent is fast becoming a hugedraw for the world’s filmmakingcommunity.
Revelation was invited to presentthe public screening component ofthe Australian InternationalDocumentary Conference as part ofthe Perth International Arts Festivalin 2000 -2001 and since then hasseen itself as a stand-alone event.
Revelation has since 2009 beensupported by the WA StateGovernment’s events agency,Eventscorp, which continues tobuild the festival’s internationalprofile and make it the Australianstop on the internationalindependent film festival circuit. The festival’s screen conference isexpected to become an even largerdraw for Australian and internationalfilmmakers.
