For Indian retailing, things started to change slowly in the 1980s

Bombay Dyeing, Raymond's, S Kumar's and Grasim and later Titan was the first to see the emergence of retail chains

In 1990 retail market got diversified FoodWorld, Subhiksha and Nilgiris in food

and FMCG; Planet M and Music World in music; Crossword and Fountainhead in books

On the growing track, by the end of year 2000 retail industries was estimated 13,000 cr. And till year 2005 was expected around 45,000 cr.
