Response #2

Some people think the breakfast program is a waste of time and resources. According to the article, people who oppose the new programs say that serving food in the classroom takes up time that should be devoted to learning. In conclusion, this problem can easily be solved by having students who need breakfast come in earlier in the morning to eat.

Response# 3

Some parents and teachers are opposed to the wastefulness of the new school breakfast programs because it takes away from time in the classroom and many students don’t eat the breakfast. According to the article by Associated Press, “People who oppose the new programs say that serving food in the classroom takes up time that should be devoted to learning.” The article also states, “Breakfast in the classroom evolved as a smart response.” The problems can be solved by having breakfast at a different time.

Response #4 Some critics of the new breakfast program believe the program to be a waste of time and resources because part of the students' learning time is being taken away to eat, and some of the students have already eaten which leads to the throwing away of perfectly good food. According to an article by the Associated Press, "parents at UCLA Community School organized, claiming the program took away instructional time from low-income and English-learner students, a group that scores persistently lower in reading and math." The article goes on to state that on some mornings " students were given apples, cereal and a small, packaged breakfast sandwich. But by the end of the meal, there was a large cooler filled with uneaten breakfast sandwiches." Some options that the schools could look into to return study time would be for students to start the school day about 15 minutes earlier and use that time for eating breakfast. The schools could also have parents fill out forms in order to opt out of thebreakfast program which would save the school from wasting so muchfood.
