Academy Photography will be at school on Tuesday, 27th February for School Photos.

Please make sure that students are at school nice and early, as the photographer will begin at 9am. All students are required to wear full School Uniform. Each child has an individually named photo envelope to take home. If your child did not receive an

envelope, please collect a blank order form from the school office.

Family Photo order forms are also available from the school office.

All students need to return

their envelope whether they order photos or not.

The office will collect orders up until 8.30am Tuesday 27/2/16.

There are 2 ways to pay for photos Pay online at

www.academyphoto.com.au using the individual code that appears on your order form (students will still need to bring the order to school)

Send cash or cheque, along with your order in the supplied envelope. You must have correct money, as the photographer will

not have change.

The school cannot accept EFTPOS or BPay in this case, as the money goes to the photographer on the day.

The Grade 3 iPads

What an exciting year with another group of Grade 3s entering our ‘one to one’ iPad program at Mildura West. We would like to talk to all parents about the details of our iPad program to ensure that parents, students and teachers can all work together to make it successful. These information sessions will outline expectations, leasing arrangements, iPad software and any general queries that parents and students have. Parents need to attend one of the sessions below to take up a school lease.

Session one - Monday 26th Feb, Time 3:30 - 4:00pm Session two - Monday 26th Feb, Time 5:30 - 6:00pm Session three - Wednesday 28th Feb, Time 4:30 - 5:00pm

There is no need to indicate availability, just show up on the day with your child.

Student iPad Expectations Parents can support our iPad program by ensuring the following iPad expectations are met by students. All students in Grade 3 to 6 are expected:

To bring their iPad to school EVERY day To bring their iPad charged Have enough free space for learning activities Not to have inappropriate apps e.g. MA+

Victorian Department of Education Homework

Guidelines

Victorian Department of Education homework guidelines state that: As part of a comprehensive and balanced curriculum within Victorian schools, homework is seen as one way of supporting and fostering life-long learning and connecting families with the learning of their children.

Homework helps students by: complementing and reinforcing classroom learning fostering

good lifelong learning and study habits

providing an opportunity for students to become responsible

for their own learning

developing self-regulation processes such as goal-setting,

self-efficacy, self-reflection and time management

supporting partnerships with parents by connecting families

with the learning of their children

fostering a sense of self-discipline and responsibility and

prepare students for upper grades

Homework at Mildura West PS At Mildura West, we attempt to make the Homework relevant and suitable to each student. Please contact your child’s teacher or the principal if you have any concerns, or if the homework is too difficult. It is also important to remember that spending time with your child, helping them with their homework and chatting to them about their learning will help them a great deal. Ask them about their goals, their accomplishments and their challenges. Understanding how they are enjoying school and how they are progressing with their learning will be of great benefit for your child. This week the MWPS homework policy has been sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions

Headlice Where do head lice come from?

Head lice have been around for thousands of years. As with any insect, they learn to adapt to their environment in order to survive. We are never going to be completely rid of them, but we can make managing them easier.

Does my child have to miss school?

According to the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009, children with head lice can be readmitted to school after head lice

treatment has commenced. A certificate from a doctor or council is not required before your child goes back to school. Head lice are not the fault of schools, other families or children.

What treatment kills 100% of head lice or eggs?

There is no single treatment that kills 100% of head lice or eggs. Whichever treatment you choose it can take time and persistence to get rid of head lice. Use a method that will not risk the health of your child. You can ask at your local Pharmacy for recommendations on hair treatment

Due to a few reported cases of Headlice within our school community we will carry out a full school Headlice

check this Friday 23rd February. If Headlice is found you will receive a courtesy phone call so you can treat

your child’s hair accordingly. Follow up checks will be carried out on Monday to check your child has been

treated over the weekend.
