When I was trying to decide which topic I would like to learn more about, I went through the list and looked at all of the ones that I had thought were very interesting. When looking for an article to do my research on, I knew that I had to go to a place that had reliable sources. Typically when wanting to know the answer to something or to further educate myself, I would just go to google. Google is usually an okay source to use for something informal or just for common knowledge, but I knew that for a research paper I would need to look somewhere that I knew was going to give me trustworthy information. So to look for my article I went to the UNC Charlotte library website. I felt that the library is usually a valid resource when looking for reliable information. When looking for the article I narrowed it down so that the only items that would appear would be articles. Since an article on a particular topic is what I am looking for, I felt that it was not necessary to be shown books or journals on the topic. When I was finally ready to search for my topic I had to then decide on which topic I was going to look for. I turned to the sheet which contained the various topics about the Holocaust and I began to look through it thoroughly. I had circled either very interested, somewhat interested, or not interested to help narrow down my search. As I looked over the list, I mainly focused on the topics that I had circled for very interested. I then began to think, which ones I would just like to know a little bit about, and which ones I would actually like to learn extensively and would be willing to write about. For my final decision I decided to research death marches. I already knew a little bit about death marches but I thought it would be very interesting to learn more in detail exactly what happen during these marches. I began to gather questions in my head like how are the marches the same? And different? Were they performed often? Or only in times of escape? How many people usually made it out alive? And how far did they usually have to march? When I searched death marches, I clicked on the one at the top of the page. I soon began to have trouble with finding information that I was looking for. So I decided to change my search to death marches of the holocaust. After narrowing my search I still found it difficult to find what I was looking for. All of the results that appeared were books that were not strictly on the death marches of the Holocaust. So I decided to result to a different website.Although I had thought before that google may not be the best place to look for my research article, I decided to give it and try and just be very careful about the one I choose. So I went to google and I typed in death marches of the Holocaust where multiple options appeared. I then clicked on the first one which brought me to an article. This article appeared to be an education site with good information. In high school I was also told not to use websites ending in .com because they usually were not reliable. This particular articled ended in .org and after inspecting it thoroughly, I found that it appeared to be something I could use. As many times as I have writing research papers I have never really thought about the process it takes to get through it. Thinking through the process can be very helpful in many different aspects. It helps one to notice their errors as well as the success that comes with thinking through the process.
