CRU invites to the 1st international workshop on

Reproductive Disorders in Baltic Vertebrate Wildlife (BALTREP)

What is the status of, and the threats to reproductive health in Baltic region wildlife?

December 7- 8, 2011, Evolutionary Biology Center, Uppsala, Sweden

Reproductive disorder in wildlife and humans is a matter of great concern. Sterile female seals and eggshell thinning in fish-eating birds in the Baltic region are classical examples of pollutant-induced reproductive disturbances. What is the status of, and the threats to reproductive health in the terrestrial and aquatic vertebrate fauna in the Baltic region today? How do we monitor reproductive health? The call is now open for abstracts on the following topics:

Disturbances in reproduction including early life development in wild vertebrates Reproductive disorders in relation to environmental pollutants, nutrition, infectious

disease, and other environmental factors – field and laboratory studies Biomarkers for reproductive disorders Comparative aspects on reproductive disorders – from fish to mammals

Keynote lecturers: International and national leading scientists in the field will present the latest updates. The speakers will be announced later.

Deadline for abstracts is October 3, send it to [email protected]. Use English language, Times new roman, font size 12, margin 2.5 cm all around. Maximum 250 words excluding title (bold, font size 14), author names, affiliations, and the required headings: Introduction, Aim, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. The abstract may include an illustration but must NOT exceed one A4 page. Indicate preference for oral or poster presentation. Authors are informed by October 20 if the abstract is accepted as poster or short oral presentation. Deadline for registration is October 27. Send an e-mail with your name and affiliation to [email protected]. The cost is 800 SEK, including lunches, coffee, dinner on Wednesday and the abstract book, and should be paid no later than October 27 (invoice will be sent). Participants arrange their own travel and accommodation, for information on hotels: www.uppsalatourism.se.

The workshop is open for those who are interested. It will provide exciting opportunities

for learning, networking, sharing projects and proposals. We hope you will join us!

Organizing committée: Cecilia Berg and Katrin Lundstedt-Enkel, Dept of Environmental Toxicology, Uppsala University, Jonas Malmsten and Sara Persson, Dept of Clinical Sciences, SLU, and Leif Norrgren, Dept of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, SLU.
