ANNUAL
REPORT
West Toronto Support Services is a non-profit agency providing community-based health and wellness services that improve the quality of life of clients and caregivers in West Toronto.
Message from the Board Chair and CEO
West Toronto Support Services (WTSS) has a long and proud history that began in 1967 of providing services
and support that enhance the health, quality of life and independence of seniors and adults with disabilities in
our communities. We now serve a large portion of west end Toronto from our sites at Bloor and Keele Street,
Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue, and on High Park Avenue. The services and programs we provide entail an
enormous amount of dedication and hard work on the part of our diverse staff and volunteers, many of whom
have been with the organization for a long time. We are grateful for their service and the difference each and
every one of them makes in the lives of our many clients and caregivers.
WTSS service statistics for the 2018-19 fiscal year are provided later in this Annual Report. However, we wish
briefly to note some of our other accomplishments during the past year:
Our annual satisfaction survey of clients and caregivers showed overall positive feedback regarding our
programs and services, with all responses reporting 80% or higher satisfaction ratings. The results will help
improve services and identify areas for new programming.
Partnerships with York University, Seneca College, George Brown College, and the Toronto District School
Board provided 20 student placements to WTSS from nursing, gerontology, social services and PSW studies,
thereby contributing nearly 2,600 hours of cost-free time to WTSS programs while providing students with
valuable experience in the community.
WTSS hosted 13 United Way Day of Caring projects in which corporate volunteers helped with our
programs, thereby providing a window into the daily workings of a United Way member agency and how
donor dollars are used to support programs that address poverty.
We partnered with Unison Health & Community Services to provide workshops on Estate Planning,
Diabetes, Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle.
In collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, we provided workshops on Late Life
Depression, Memory and Dementia.
Our proposal for the donation of a new vehicle from The Rotary Club of Toronto was successful. Our new
Honda Odyssey can seat up to 8 people, ensuring that we can continue to meet the growing demand for
rides to medical and social appointments. Thank you Rotary for your generosity!
Mindful of our changing strategic environment and the provincial government’s focus on transforming the
health care system, the Boards of Directors of Reconnect Community Health Services and WTSS signed a
Letter of Intent on April 24, 2019 confirming their commitment to assess the potential of integrating the
organizations to create a combined entity that will better serve our clients and communities. We will
continue to keep stakeholders apprised as the process unfolds.
In concluding, we thank all our staff and volunteers for their dedication to our clients and their commitment to
making a difference in our clients’ lives, especially those who are most vulnerable. We also want to thank our
funders, donors and partners for their continued support in helping us to achieve our mission and goals.
And finally, a special thank you to our clients, their families and caregivers for choosing WTSS. It is a privilege
to serve you!
