PLACE: Immunization Day, Nanoda (Bicholim PHC)

A nutrition education programme was conducted at Nanoda sub centre, on Immunization day, for the

lactating, pregnant mothers and mothers of preschool children. The Assistant nutrition officer delivered a talk

on importance of breastfeeding and initialization of same soon after birth of the child, its benefits for

lactating mother as well as for the baby. Topics highlighted were Techniques and positions of breastfeeding,

Expression of breast milk, hygiene during breastfeeding, Balanced diet, Iron and calcium rich foods and

importance of water, lactogenic foods which help to increase the supply of breast milk and complementary

foods for infants were also discussed. Total 41 mothers were present. Individual diet counseling was also

done The ANM from Kharpal sub centre, MPHW (M) from Sal and Nanoda sub centre staff were also

present. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries

were answered.

A Nutrition education programme was conducted at Mapusa District Hospital for the pregnant women. The

Assistant nutrition officer delivered lecture on importance of nutrition during pregnancy. Topics highlighted

were balanced diet, importance of breakfast, water, postnatal care, eating pattern and the micronutrients

important for pregnant mothers (iron, calcium, and iodine) deficiencies and food sources. Importance of

breastfeeding and its benefits for child and mother, techniques and positions of breastfeeding, Initiation of

breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding, Expression of breast milk, hygiene during breastfeeding were

discussed. Preparation of home made complimentary foods for infants and lactogenic foods which help to

increase the supply of breast milk were discussed. Homemade cerelac recipe was explained to the

beneficiaries. The session was attended by 11 antenatals.

A nutrition education programme was conducted at Balaji Temple Anganwadi, Velinga, for the mothers of

preschool children. The assistant nutrition officer delivered a talk on importance of nutrition and balance

diet for children, Pregnant and lactating mothers. Other topics highlighted were importance of water,

breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like Iron and calcium, ill effects of junk

food and lifestyle diseases were discussed. Importance of breastfeeding and its benefits for child and

breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like Iron and calcium, ill effects of junk

food and lifestyle diseases were discussed. Preparation of recipes keeping in mind the local availability and

SNP provided to the beneficiaries was also discussed. Diarrhoea and its control measures and ORS

preparation. ANM from Velinga sub centre spoke on NVBDCP Awareness and Hand washing techniques.

The session was attended by 14 mothers. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many

questions to which their queries were answered.

A nutrition programme was organized for the anganwadi workers during the monthly sector meeting. The

extension educator spoke on PCPNDT, NVBDCP, family planning methods, immunization and hand

washing. Nutrition officers spoke on importance of nutrition for children, adolescents, pregnant and

lactating mothers. Other topics highlighted were water, breakfast, iron and calcium deficiency and food

sources, lactogenic foods, complimentary foods, homemade cerelac recipe, care during pregnancy and

lactation and menstrual hygiene for adolescents. Total 28 anganwadi workers, 8 ANMS, EE, LHV PHN and

Calangute sub centre staff were present for the meeting.

The village Health and Sanitation Meet was held at Mangeshi anganwadi.The Health officer from Madkai

PHC spoke on Domestic waste disposal (Dry /Wet) and Disinfection of wells. The nutrition officers spoke

on NVBDCP Awareness, Diarrhoea and ORS preparation, Safe drinking water, Hand washing techniques

demonstration, Nutrition and Correct cooking methods. Total 24 mothers were present. The PHN from

Madkai PHC, MPHW (M) and ANM from Velinga sub centre were also present. It was an interactive

session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

lifestyle diseases were discussed. Preparation of recipes keeping in mind the local availability and SNP

breastfeeding, post natal care, balanced diet, iron and calcium rich foods and importance of water,

Lactogenic foods which help to increase the supply of breast milk, Expression of breast milk, Expression of

breast milk, hygiene during breastfeeding and complimentary foods were also discussed keeping in mind

locally available foods and SNP provided to the beneficiaries. Homemade cerelac recipe was explained to the

beneficiaries. The session was attended by 19 postpartum mothers were present. It was an interactive session

where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

In view of educating them about importance of nutrition since they are in the childhood phase and this is a

very crucial period for their healthy growth and development and thus require special attention to macro as

well as micro nutrients. The nutrition officers gave a talk on balanced diet for children, importance of water,

breakfast and ill effects of junk food and lifestyle diseases. Personal hygiene, safe drinking water and Hand

washing steps were also demonstrated. A total of 20 students were present along with their teachers. The

PHN, IEC Supervisor and RMNCH +A counselor from Colvale PHC were also present. It was an interactive

session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

to macro as well as micro nutrients. The nutrition officer’s gave a talk on balanced diet with the help of food

guide pyramid, importance of water, breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like

Iron, calcium and Iodine, Vitamin A, ill effects of junk food, Personal hygiene and hand washing steps

demonstration.. A total of 81 students and 12 teachers were present. The RMNCH+A Counselor from

Colvale PHC was also present along with school health team. It was an interactive session where the

audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

A Nutrition Education Programme was conducted on Village Health & Nutrition Day at Chandor Anganwadi, for

the women of different age. The Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on Malnutrition in Children how it affects the

child’s growth, academic performance and other activities. Adopting correct feeding practices and other care for

Consumption of local fruits and vegetables were also encouraged, Breastfeeding and its importance were also

discussed, and preparations of complementary feeds were explained. Various Family planning methods available at

PHC level were also encouraged. The session was attended by 15 parents of different age groups. It was an

interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered. The

ANM’s and MPHW-M of PHC Cansaulim were also present.

weaning infant’s including locally available foods and SNP provided were discussed. Consumption of local fruits

and vegetables was encouraged. Various Family planning methods available at the hospital were also discussed

encouraging the mothers to avail the same, save the girl child topic was also highlighted. The session was attended

by 20 ladies of different age groups. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to

which their queries were answered.

adolescents was discussed with symptoms of Iron deficiency disorders commonly faced during the adolescent

phase. Nutritional guidelines to be followed during the consumption of the Iron & Folic acid supplements through

balanced breakfast, vitamin C enriched foods, Iron rich locally available foods and avoiding caffeinated beverages

and junk food was discussed. The deworming schedule was also explained. Other topics highlighted were

importance of water, breakfast and Ill effects of junk food. The session was attended by 250 parents. It was an

interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered. School
