To: Humberto Uchima TasamaFrom: Luisa Fernanda Castaño OcampoSubject: Conversation lesson report.Date: 26th February 2014

The aim of this report is to share some observations based on a conversation lesson from the Licenciatura en Lengua Inglesa program. This report is focused on three specific aspects: Language use, pedagogical component, and learning strategies.

Language use:

Since Conversation I is mainly a communicative class, language use plays a critical role in its development. In fact, some of the current topics in course are "vague language", "fillers" and "lexical phrases" in spontaneous speech. Due to this, both students' and teacher's linguistic skills evidence a proper level, which allows them to succeed or at least achieve some minimal comprehension throughout the process. This eventually ends up with the reflective improvement of such matters.

Pedagogical component:

Along with the agreement in language use, the pedagogical component is quite relevant. The teaching methodology used in this lesson reflects it by following a concrete and organized sequence, which includes eliciting information, providing input, modeling patterns and requesting production. These steps allow the whole lesson to be fluent and linked, as well as clear and understandable.

Learning strategies:

Finally, the implementation of creative and fun strategies for learning appears to be very effective. Students seem to be focused and involved, not only in their own process but also their peers'. Getting them to cooperate with each other, through group discussions and feedback, permit them to be aware of their own weaknesses and strengths; as seen in this lesson in which students are expected to learn by interacting and avoiding any kind of affective filter.

To sum up, the three aspects mentioned at the beginning have been developed in a reflective and aiming way throughout this conversation lesson, which enables students to improve their English skills, and the teacher to reflect even more about his role.
