Dear Parents WELCOME I would like to welcome Mrs Dom Soroka, Miss Amy Houghton, Miss Emily Geling, Mrs Bree Smith, Mrs Alex Manning, Mrs Loret Gorrill and Mrs Jo Croft onto our 2020 staff. I would also like to welcome all of the new families as well as existing families to Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School. It was wonderful to see everyones faces when they walked into our new school. There has been a great deal of planning and organisation to get to this stage. It is going to be even more exciting when the entire build has been finished and all of the builders fences removed. I would like to thank all of the parents for sending your children to school prepared to learn. It makes an enormous difference when teachers can concentrate on teaching and not have to waste their valuable time checking uniforms, hair, jewellery etc. Everyone has settled into the new school year and Im excited about what we can achieve this year. There are still many small projects to be completed, too many to list, but the main ones in the immediate future are the covered walkway, nature playground and landscaping. I am hoping all of the above will be completed by the end of this month. When we loaded the furniture from the village into the containers it took 2 days. The unloading of furniture into the classrooms only took four hours. I would sincerely like to thank all of the staff, parents, students and especially the Kolbe Catholic College students who gave up their time to help us move. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Next week all year levels will be holding a Parent Information Session. It is extremely important that at least one parent from each family attends these meetings. There will be a great deal of information shared by the staff and it is an opportunity for you to meet the teachers and other parents. Children are not to attend the meetings. They will be supervised in the Library by specialist staff and teaching assistants. I am looking forward to a very exciting and rewarding year. Dear Parents

WELCOME

I would like to welcome Mrs Dom Soroka, Miss Amy Houghton, Miss Emily Geling, Mrs Bree Smith, Mrs Alex Manning, Mrs Loret Gorrill and Mrs Jo Croft onto our 2020 staff. I would also like to welcome all of the new families as well as existing families to Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School.

It was wonderful to see everyone’s faces when they walked into our new school. There has been a great deal of planning and organisation to get to this stage. It is going to be even more exciting when the entire build has been finished and all of the builder’s fences removed.

I would like to thank all of the parents for sending your children to school prepared to learn. It makes an enormous difference when teachers can concentrate on teaching and not have to waste their valuable time checking uniforms, hair, jewellery etc. Everyone has settled into the new school year and I’m excited about what we can achieve this year.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Next week all year levels will be holding a Parent Information Session.

COMMITMENT

COMMITMENT is caring deeply about something or someone. It is the

willingness to give your all to a friendship, a task, or something you believe in.

COMMITMENT is the ability to make decisions and follow through with them.

COMMITMENT is keeping your promise.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Ask not what your school can do for you; ask what you can do for your school.

DEAR GOD,

THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT OF

EDUCATION IN EVERY FORM.

AS OUR CHILDREN PREPARE TO START A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

MAY CONFIDENCE BE THEIR FOUNDATION,

MAY GRACE BE THEIR GUIDE AND

MAY HOPE BE THEIR COMPASS TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE.

I PRAY THEY WOULD HAVE EYES TO SEE

THE NEEDS OF THOSE AROUND THEM

AND A HEART TO LOVE WELL.

MAY THEY FACE EACH DAY WITH POSITIVITY

KNOWING THAT NO MATTER

WHAT COMES THEIR WAY,

THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FACE IT ALONE.

BEYOND

Suggest a beach or

river litter clean-up.

It’s a way to teach

others about

reducing packaging

and keeping our

valuable local water-

ways clean.

There are still adults who are too shy to read or even speak

in public because of the humiliations they suffered when

performing in front of a class.

Reading aloud from a book to a loving parent can be fun and

free from fear. But it can also be a disagreeable and

unpleasant struggle if it isn't done properly. There is no room

for impatience. There is no room for failure. There is no room

for struggle. Sighs, nervous tics and anxious questions from

the children like, “How long to go? are sure signs that all is

not well.

This unpleasant battle with oral reading can happen at home

or school. The consequences of a child failing with reading

aloud can last a lifetime. Once a child relates books to pain

we have a big problem. Parents must also look as if they are

enjoying the experience.

Children are very sensitive to non-verbal messages.

equipment and toys for the children to play with which we hope they will truly enjoy. If you

have not yet had a chance to look at our amazing new outdoor Tepee and balance beams

We have lots of new and amazing things happening in the Early Learning Centre these next

few weeks including our introduction to our AMAZING new reading den which will be intro-

duced to the children next week! We have paired up with Rockingham Council for ‘Paint

SOTS EARLY LEARNING

& CARE CENTRES 7th February 2020

It has been an exciting first few days of term for us here at OSHC Club. School has just started,

and we welcome our Kindys and all children who have joined Star of the Sea OSHC for the first

time.

We’ve had lots of laughs, a few cries, plenty of fun and made lots of new friends. We’ve built

boats made from Lego, animals from play dough, played dodgeball in the hall, made a race

track for our hot wheels cars and even opened our own little restaurant and shop.

We would like to thank all our OSHC kids for being welcoming and supportive to all the children

who have started this week. Thank you for showing the children around and helping them when

they need your help.

You have made us proud, and we love having you all here.

Here’s to an amazing Term One.
