The 100 poppies by Jed Williams

You’re the war heroes of our time Your killings was no crime You fought many battles You saved babies shaking rattles You stopped the Germans from claiming our land You gave each other a helping hand You’re still with us in our hearts Your story is told through arts Your one of one hundred And yet we wonder Which poppy are you in the field of one hundred We will still remember your service to our nation And the many men that died with you You are remembered in the field of 100 poppies And 100 poppies more

Remember Them

Remember the men that were lost to war, Remember the women that could take no more. Remember the children that lost all hope, Remember the families that would forever mope. Remember to bow your head in silence, Remember to look up to them for guidance. Remember to wear your poppy with pride, Remember all of them that sadly died, By Sarah Teasdale 9 LEW

Four Years Of Fighting You soldiers that died in the war Shall always be remembered ever more All you boys that held the Germans back You finally launched your final attack Four years you were fighting It became ever more frightening Finally the war had ended You can now have your spirits amended Sadly not all of you made it It hurts our hearts a bit But all the bad memories are now gone We can all live as one So on our Remembrance day We pray And we never want to forget you Because we always need you By George Hart

You fought for us You fought for us and we are proud Many people now have bowed, For they deeply miss you That is the thing they mostly do All of you were stuck in those trenches And now you’re remembered on our benches, You defended us from Germany Now we are slowly becoming friendly They always started nearly every attack But you were always able to bounce back, You ended most of the nights As the winner of the fights We have a day to remember you all We all wear poppy’s, it’s the symbol, It’s called remembrance day, it’s for you because we all really miss you By Thomas Halls

Spanish flu claimed some lives The men were missed by their wives The dogs used as messengers The Germans were like predators This battle went on for four years At Christmas they all shared their cheers Germany wouldn’t give in But Britain eventually would win 1914 was when it began Eventually Britain devised a plan Our men equipped with their rifles But they insured their survival By Dylan Grey

The lad’s on the Moor. The lads were heading to the Moor, Out to fight an ugly war, Knowing that they might not come home, They may have to leave their loved ones alone, Every year on the 11 of November, People all around the world remember, The fact that they were out there trying, And some of them were mostly dying, The news of the deaths shook us to the core, The fact that they had died in war, Everyone who lost their lives, We still remember that they tried, The lads were out there in the Moor’s, Not needing to fight anymore wars. You’re gone, But we hold on,

And we remember you. You will never be forgotten,

Forever in our hearts, And we remember you. Stuck in the trenches,

Fighting for this country, And we remember you.

We deeply miss you, We’re left in the blue,

And we remember you. Poppies are the symbol,

It is really simple, And we remember you.

28th July 1914 the start of the war Also the start of 4 years of gore Fifth deadliest conflict in world history A world then was full of utter misery 22 million lives lost in those years But for those who lived brought back souvenirs A stump on the leg or arm or both That for the rest of their lives would never get back growth But on the bright side, they men did their job Although their pain will still throb They won us the war With their bravery going ashore Facing the enemy with adrenaline rush Their strength overwhelming, their accuracy lush Enemies forcing to retreat back more Then the bombs began to pour But they can rest easy now, the job is done Now the soldiers can lower their gun Hands in the air, celebrate the victory They’ve gone and stopped the artillery By Joe Vanstone

Give time to think of the soldiers that tried So take some time to remember those that sadly died Buy a poppy to remember those that fought for you Take time to think when you sit in your pew So buy a poppy to show that you care Because nothing can compare So buy a poppy for the eleventh of November Just to remember Who fought for you By Lauren Jones

The fallen Soldiers It all began on the 28th July, Every man in the country went to apply. Only the fittest would get the pick So they made sure that they were all in good nick. The trenches they lived in were very poor, Some would die in here for sure. The gruelling battles went on for a year, But at Christmas time they all began to cheer. For that one day they were all friends, But from then on the men started to descend. After four years the war started to end, But Germany was still not Britain’s friend. Many of the soldiers were laid to rest, And we all know they did their best. Because of the war families lives were wrecked, So every year we show our respect. They fought for their country and their families, And now they lie in a bed of poppies. By Will Johnson

They may be gone but they will never be forgotten. Take a minute, or just a few, To remember the soldiers that fought for you, And fought without the fear, They did their jobs, And killed the bad for you. So spend some time thinking about them, As they had the time think about you, They kept strong, Even when they were weak, Stuck in the trenches fighting for us, Killing others to save their own lives. As the bullet hit their body, They knew they did their job, So they could rest in peace,

Knowing what they’ve all done, A great job saving lives of people, For the good or bad. Stories left to be untold , That can unfold, Take a minute , Or just a few, To remember the ones who died for you! Dead but never forgotten, In our hearts for ever and ever. By Tamsin Burgess

Lost, But Never Forgotten Off they went to the moors, Just waiting to fight in the horrid war, They know they might not be back for dinner, But they will always be winners, On the 11th of November, All of us remember, That they were out there dying, While we were trying, To stay calm and not cry, We really did try, We couldn’t handle the fact that they died out there, In the middle of nowhere, All alone and scared, They were lost but they were never forgotten. Respect and Reflect 1914 they went to war, This went on four years or more. All the men went to fight, They battled and fought with all their might. Three countries became allies, Men started to fall like flies. Germany went on the attack, However this didn’t make France crack. Back in England the women did the jobs, A few months earlier they were fighting in mobs. Even though went on for years, At Christmas they stopped and shared some beers. This day people show their respect, When they look back and reflect. By Matt Tharme

They did their job, They did it for you, Gone but not forgotten. Remember them, They remembered you, Gone but not forgotten. They fought for us, So fight for them, Gone but not forgotten. They held on, Keeping strong, Gone but not forgotten. Stuck in the trenches, Kept in your mind, Gone but not forgotten. As quick as a bullet,

In the back of your mind, Gone but not forgotten. Filled with sorrow, Filled with hope, Gone but not forgotten. In our hearts, Forever and ever, Gone but not forgotten. Lives are lost, Whatever the cost, Gone but not forgotten. Stories untold, That now unfold, Gone but not forgotten. By Liam Hatt 9LEW.

Put them on jumpers. One minute silence. Petals that represent the blood. Placed on graves where solders lay. You should always remember them. What the Poppy Represents Red represents the blood lost at war, Black is for the grief over their deaths, Green symbolises hope for a peaceful future. Grown on the plain were the solders fell, Shedding light in such a dark time. Olivia Parsons

My brave man My dear, my dear, I shed a tear, As I remember the ginger beer, That we drank before you left My flower, my flower, I wish I had the power, To say that I won’t cower, And bring you back to life. My love, my love, I still have the dove, You gave me when I lost my glove, And I wish that you were with me now. My sweet, my sweet you fought in the heat, You could no longer dance to the beat, Of my mournful love songs. By Jo-anna Bulley

My Love, My Love. My love, my love I miss you with all my heart, I’m afraid now we have to part, The loss that has come, I wish it could be undone, I now know that your soul will rise, You will soar across the skies, I pray you can go all across the land, I hope this gives others a hand, Understanding the feeling, And be able to keep living, My love, my love I will always keep you near, Even though I will want you here, I understand you were and will be there for me, I’ll insist everyone will get on their knee, For you and others alike, Who join in on the fight, Remove the chains of time and space, Help others to embrace, The poppy flowers stand with pride, We will mourn together and not hide, My love, my love my words will be of peace, My unconditional love for you will not cease, By Elle Danson.

Out of the gloom The gunfire roared and rang around the fields The sounds of men’s last words echo in my mind The men lay down and dropped their shields And I remember that we were not kind When they said that the war had ceased Everyone thought, yes, I can go home But all I thought about was us being beasts No one thought about the dead, and that horrified me to the bone The 11th of November 1918 Everyone will remember that day But will they remember the men that have been? Will they remember the men that lay? Memories flood back of my days in the war All the blood and those lost souls All of those dead bodies that we saw The flag of our country on those bloodied poles But then I saw hope Out of all the gloom It was a miracle, it made me cope There was a poppy, in full bloom By Maisy Iggulden

Do you remember? By Chloe Hockin I can remember the cries when I went, When I was ordered to leave because for us they had sent. War was not optional, nor a thing to enjoy, It was a demand and a duty, something known to destroy. I can remember us standing strong all together, However shaking in fear and not due to weather. Sent to the battlefields with no reason or plan known, Just praying for our lives - that we would return home. I can remember the friends I made in the trench, Laughing and telling stories, ignoring the stench. I lost some of those which made me realise, How lucky I was to still be alive. I can remember how many fell down, And how heartbroken I felt - when I couldn’t help them off the ground. None of us knew when it was going to end, Whether this was a ‘one off’- or a future trend? But now I remember why we did this all, So Britain could make history and always stand tall. Despite love ones being lost, not everything was bad, Because good memories were created – Not all of them sad.

Silent We Stand Sombre and silent we stand, Heads bowed, eyes closed, Remembering those lost, hand in hand. Some may weep, some may stare, Though all will feel a soldier’s absence, When solitude and anguish scent the air. Poppies red, emotions blue, The world stands still, Tales of years past still ringing true. The chill of the trenches, as we strain to remember, The illness, the death, the heartbreak, Seems a whole world away from the chill of November. Sombre and silent we stand, Heads bowed, eyes closed, Remembering those lost, hand in hand. By Louise Wakeham

Gone and not forgotten This pain that I’m feeling I cannot hide In memory, I see you A million tears, I miss you The sweet and lovely thoughts you left me Have Come to my memory already Your smile and grin, so precious Will always be in my heart forever. You visit me in summer When flowers are in bloom In the sunshine A star-lit night in June Gone and not forgotten, The pain still hurts, The wind gently blows, goodbye By Emma Lawson

The poppies are scattered, a crimson red, The colour resembling the blood of the dead, The fields where the soldiers laid down their head, In the emerald grass that was once their bed, Deep in the trenches where the great men rested, Where their eyes were closed and bravery tested, Many died for the cold and the wet, Most died from the overhead threat, Triggers were pulled against innocent heads, Bodies lain down in flowery beds, The sadness that fills the empty spaces That then people we lost have left. By Ella Waters
