religion of the Vedas.

Some scholars hold that this religion

was brought to India by nomadic,

horse-riding warriors, a group known

as the Aryans, from the steppes of

central Asia. This has, in recent

years, become a matter of  some

dispute in India. Regardless of where

they came from, the Aryans

practiced a sacrif ice-based religion that was centered around the

purifying and transformative

qualities of f ire, and that was

oriented toward  influencing a vast

array of powerf ul gods, called devas.

  Many of these gods were

personif ications of natural elements-

wind, f ire, water-while others werewarrior-like f igures.The Vedas, a vast

corpus of  mythological and ritual

texts, describe this divine pantheon,

as well as prescribe, sometimes  in

great detail, the rituals to be

performed to keep these gods

"happy," and thus  insure that they

benignly interact with the human

realm.

The religious realm of the Vedas  is

centered on the proper performance

of ritual sacrif ice, which, essentially,

involves the offering something of

value-an animal, food-in order to

At f irst, only men followed the Buddha as

monks. Later, women were also allowed

to become nuns, but with many

restrictions reflecting the social customs of the time. According to Buddhist texts,

the Buddha objected to this at f irst, but

was persuaded by his disciple Ananda to

admit women. Some of the early texts

also suggested that women could  not

become enlightened, but must f irst be

reborn as  men. Feminist scholars of

Buddhism believe that these stories are

later additions to the texts that reflect

attitudes toward women in those times.

Some early Buddhist texts mention both

men and women who, like the Buddha,

became enlightened. The earliest

disciples, called arhat, also attained

enlightenment and were sent by the

Buddha to wander and teach on their

own. Soon there were many newconverts and the new religion rapidly

gained large numbers of followers.

Founder/s h  Hinduism  is formed of  diverse

traditions and has no single founder.

Among its roots  is the historical

Vedic religion of Iron Age India, and

as such Hinduism  is often called the

"oldest living religion" or the "oldest

living major religion".

h  Hinduism does not have a founder or

date of origin. Rather, it has been

traditionally viewed as a timeless

tradition that has been and

continues to be revealed to humans

at the start of each world cycle.

h Hinduism has  neither a specif icmoment of origin  nor a specif ic

founder.Rather, the tradition

understands  itself to be timeless,

having always existed.Indeed, its

collection of  sacred texts  is known,

as a whole, as Sanatana Dharma,

"The Eternal Teaching." At the

trinity in that all three are really just

different names and personalities of

the same god. In fact, all the

hundreds of  Hindu gods are justdifferent names and looks of the one

god.

There is  no god  in  Buddhism. A

person's own actions lead to

cycle of re-birth and  death. Some

venerate the Buddha, but this  does

they will be reborn into a f uture that

Hindus believe in the cycle of birth,

death and rebirth, which is called

of rebirth is also known as the

theory of reincarnation or of

transmigration of the soul. This

doctrine is considered to be a basic

tenet of  Hinduism. According to

  Mainstream buddhism  says there is

no soul, because buddhists  sees a

"soul" made up of components like

feelings, consiousness and  so on. A

"soul" generally is made up of many

components. Just like scientist def ine

of muscles,bones, skin etc.

genuine repentance results in Allah's

forgiveness and entrance into

to Allah.

  Though a Muslim honors  several

prophets, Muhammad  is considered

the last prophet and his words and

lifestyle are that person's authority.

To be a Muslim, one has to follow

f ive religious  duties: 1. Repeat a

creed about Allah and Muhammad;

2. Recite certain prayers  in Arabic

f ive times a day; 3. Give to the

needy; 4. One month each year, fast

from food, drink, sex and  smoking

from sunrise to sunset; 5. Pilgrimage

once in one's lifetime to worship at a

shrine in Mecca. At death -- based on

one's faithf ulness to these duties -- a

Muslim hopes to enter Paradise. If

not, they will be eternally punished

in hell.

  For many people, Islam  matches

their expectations about religion and

deity. Islam teaches that there is one

supreme God, who is worshiped

through good deeds and disciplined

religious rituals. After death a person

is rewarded or punished according to

their religious devotion.

of the Holy Prophet Islamic law is

in al-Kaf i, vol. V, according to which

Each of these ways to salvation  in

Hinduism requires that a person do

certain things. Salvation  is through

what a Hindu  does. It is through

conduct and a clean mind.

7. Right Contemplation: make your self

aware of your deeds, words and

thoughts  so that you can be free of

desire and sorrow.

8. Right Meditation: train your mind to

focus on a single object without

wavering so as to develop a calm

mind capable of concentration.

Following the Noble Eightfold Path

requires that a person do the above

eight things. Salvation  is through

period of time, Allah will deliver

those who have done suff icient good

deeds from hell, leaving behind

those who have not done enough

good deeds.

Salvation is through what a Muslim does.

It is through human works.

Purpose of Lif e   The purpose of life is to follow the

law (dharma) of God and achievesalvation (moksha) or freedom from

his false self (ahamkara) by leading a

balanced life in which material

comforts and human passions have

their own place and legitimacy.

The purpose of life is  not to take

human life, not to lie, not to steal, not to use intoxicants, not to engage

in illicit sexual behavior

The purpose of life is to live in a way

that is pleasing to Allah so that onemay gain Paradise. It is believed that

at puberty, an account of each

person's  deeds  is opened, and this

will be used at the Day of Judgment

to determine his eternal fate. The

Q ur'an also suggests a doctrine of
