Graduation Requirements• 4 years  Language Arts• 3 years Social Studies• 3 years Math• 2 years 1.5 PE + .5 Health• 3 years  Science (2 Lab + 1 Lab or 1 Non‐Lab)• 1 year Occupational (CTE)• 2 years Performing or Visual Arts*• 2 years  World Language**• + Electives to total a minimum of 24 credits

You will also need to pass: Required state testing in reading and writing (SBA ELA),

math (SBA Math) and science Washington State History complete and present your High School and Beyond Plan during senior year

*1 year may be personalized pathway requirement**both credits may be personalized pathway credit

• 3 years Math (Advanced Algebra/Trig or beyond)

• 1 year Senior Year Math*

• 2 years Science – 2 years of lab science, including 1 year of algebra‐based chemistry or physics

• 2 years World Language (same language)

• 1 year Performing or Visual Arts

• 1 year additional algebra‐based lab science in senior year

*can be met by taking an algebra‐based science course or by taking a math course beyond adv alg/trig during or prior to senior year

❧ All seniors need to enroll in two semesters of LA‐12

❧ Some classes are a full year; others are a semester

❧ Think about your personal interests and passions and choose courses that best suit you and your post‐secondary plan

❧ College‐bound seniors should consider enrolling in AP Literature, AP Language or AP Seminar, especially if you’re planning to apply at a competitive college 

❧ You will most likely have additional space in your schedule, so consider taking extra language arts classes as electives to pursue your creative interests

❧ Full year❧ Designed for the college‐bound senior❧ Focuses on literature (poetry, plays, and novels) similar to what one would find in a college level class

❧ Essays are written in class and are similar to what one would find on the AP exam

❧ Like other AP classes, there is a national test in May.  Depending on your score and the college you attend, you may earn college credit for this exam.

❧ Colleges and universities look for  course rigor when evaluating students for admission, for honors college placement, and for scholarship opportunities.  They especially want to see AP classes and will use that as evidence that you have challenged yourself and can succeed in college level coursework.

❧ Full year❧ Designed for the college‐bound senior❧ Cultivates the reading and writing  skills that students need for college success and for intellectually responsible civic engagement

❧ The course guides students in becoming curious, critical, and  responsive readers of diverse texts, and becoming flexible, reflective writers of  texts addressed to diverse audiences for diverse purposes

❧ The reading and writing students do in the course should deepen and expand their understanding of how written language functions rhetorically

❧ Full year❧ Designed for the college‐bound student❧ Research‐based class open to juniors and seniors who have already taken AP Language

❧ Develops research skills introduced in AP Lang.❧ Students will write and present TWO extensive research projects, one with a team and one independently. 

❧ We spend the year discussing, analyzing, and writing about real academic, national, and global issues. 

❧ You will also be introduced to some basic debate formats and work a lot on presentation skills

❧ One semester❧ Students research, rehearse, memorize, and develop characters for a children’s script to present to elementary students in the district

❧ Because these projects involve working in small and large groups participation and attendance are very important to your grade.

Children’s Theatre  This is an arts class that cross credits for  English but isn’t widely accepted by universities as English credit.

❧ Year‐long course❧ Students learn the basics of  journalism‐ including the fundamentals of news, feature, editorial and sports writing, photojournalism and graphic design. 

❧ Students use those skills to create the monthly edition of In View, the Auburn Mountainview newspaper. 

❧ Being on Newspaper staff is a GREAT way to spice up your resume!

❧ University‐bound students need to check to see if newspaper counts for English credit at the school they are interested in

Sports LitHow do sports affect society, the relationship between people and their community, and the interaction between people in their communities? We will explore the Sociology of sport through various texts, modes of writing, and activities. Your job will be to critically think about, evaluate/analyze, and communicate your understanding about the various ways sports shapes society.

❧ One semester❧ Focus on Western and European theatre with side trips into Asian and Indian theatre

❧ Periods explored: Pre‐history, Greek and Roman Theatre, The Dark Ages, Medieval Religious Theatre, Elizabethan Theatre, Jacobean Theatre, Restoration Theatre, 19th Century Theatre, 20thCentury Theatre, Classical Japanese Theatre

❧ Three of the above listed Theatrical periods will require a brief presentation by the student (may work with a partner) involving some aspect of theatre or culture for that period

❧ The final project will be a group presentation which will tie the other presentations together into a cohesive whole

Computer Science• AP Computer Science A / Computer Science ½

Are you interested in learning a programming language? Do you want to learn Java? Do you want to work with mini robots and Minecraft Mods in May? If yes, sign up for Period 0 or Period 1 AP Computer Science A. Within the first month of the class you will decided if you want to take the AP test. If you decide not to take the test, that is OK. You will stay in the class, the class heading will change from APCS to Computer Science. This is a third year math credit.

Are you interested in solving problems, learning a little programming, learn about the internet and the global impact of computing? This is the class for you. This is a third year math credit.
