Definition

Fromkin and Rodman (1978: 282), “jargon is words used to describe the special terms of a professional or trade group.

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, jargon is defined as “the language used for a particular activity or by a particular group of people” 

Who uses Jargon?

Jargon is commonly used by groups that have a similar interest, like trades and/or professions. However, it can be used by people involved in sports or other casual groups.

Function

1) Jargon is a useful, time-saving shorthand for the people inside a professional field.

2) Jargon can help to identify members of the professional group. 

3) Jargon has considerable utility as euphemism.
