Project Design Summary1. Domestic violence ad campaign - To promote constructive public dialogue around
the previously taboo topic of domestic violence.2. Community leader trainings - To improve the facilitation of community meetings,
communication, and community outreach.3. Community meetings - To provide a forum for local community members to engage
with local leaders in order to address concerns, debunk myths, raise awareness, and promote grassroot change.
4. Police trainings - To equip police personnel with the adequate tools to address the complexities of domestic violence.
Scale and Sustainability• Using peer groups to slowly build a network of community leaders to work together to
continue education and training. • Training local leaders as trainers so they in turn will train other members of the
community.
Exit Strategy
• Year one: Phase down ad campaign and community leader training.
• Year two: Begin phase over of organizing community meetings
• Year three: Phase over of the police training program; phase out ad campaign, organizing community meetings, community leader training, and police training program
Indicator
To achieve at least 30% increase over baseline of targeted individuals who recall at least three key message points from the campaign in identified
high-risk neighborhoods in the cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria by the end of the first
year in the project time frame.
