Mission Statement and Goals

East Georgia State College seeks to recruit, admit and serve an eligible student

population, providing them the opportunity for a quality higher education

without being a financial hindrance. We seek to develop students intellectually,

culturally, emotionally and educationally to the best of their ability. We at East

Georgia State College are committed to reaching and engaging traditional, non-

traditional and first generation college students who may have not looked into

higher education as a possibility.

East Georgia State College will collaborate with institutions, businesses, industries

and community entities to supply the demand for high quality, independent and

proactive workforce professionals that compete regionally, nationally and

globally. Our efforts to meet these goals are done through our faculty and staff

providing exceptional instruction and student development initiatives to achieve

either or both an Associate in Arts, Bachelors in Biology, or our newest degree

program, a Bachelors in Fire Science and Emergency Services Administration.

Goals:

Advance Retention and graduation efforts by recruiting students who are an institutional fit.

Increase overall student enrollment on Swainsboro, Statesboro and Augusta campuses.

Recruit qualified students and their parents through effective recruitment and marketing strategies.

Enhance the operational effectiveness of the Office of Admissions.

Recruitment Strategies

The most effective recruiting practices and strategies used by enrollment

professionals are visits to high schools, interactions through communication,

hosting campus visits with prospective students and families and scholarship

opportunities present at the institution. Live presentations by the institutions

personnel at high schools and on – campus recruiting events are key inducements

in prospective students choosing a college.

It is paramount that we at East Georgia State College effectively communicate to

prospective students and families why EGSC is the right choice. From speaking of

the various academic programs offered, to the student life programs and sports

present at East Georgia, continuing to the on – campus student housing and low

tuition rates. It is important that we understand and convey this powerful

message to prospective students on why they should choose East Georgia as their

home for post-secondary education. Conveying this message will describe and

allow prospective students to envision themselves as an EGSC student both inside

and outside of the classroom.

“Great Beginnings”, a theme at EGSC, has been the foundation of the culture past

and present. Illustrating and expanding this idea to prospective students allows

the culture to continually transition into the next phase of students on our

campuses. From the small class sizes and more personalized student-teacher

interaction, to our beautiful main campus and partner locations that we offer;

EGSC really is a gem of the University System of Georgia.

Targeting

In order to meet the East Georgia State College admissions and goals statement,

our recruitment efforts will be focused on the Central Southeast Region and

metro Atlanta areas in the state of Georgia. We believe that we are THE BEST

option for new students looking to pursue an affordable quality post-secondary

education. Our efforts will consist of a service area within the 1.5 hour radius of

travel from our locations excluding the metro Atlanta area, which consists of the

DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties.

The recruitment efforts will be directed in initial off campus contacts with

prospective students through avenues such as Probe, College and Career Fairs,

High School visits and other off campus recruiting events.

Together, as the Office of Admissions we will recruit and market East Georgia

State College to the best of our abilities and budgetary restrictions; maintaining

secure and reliable communication throughout the recruitment season. It is

essential to support and assist fellow recruiters and admissions representatives in

overlapping territories in order to keep a consistent and positive representation

of EGSC in the middle and high schools within the region.

Southeast Region:

The numbers reflected in the graph represent the efforts exerted in the Southeast

Recruiting region.

Although in years prior, we were not able to provide focused recruitment, the

addition of another full – time recruiter has allowed more relationships with

counselors/community officials. Through these relationships, we have been able

to visit more high schools more often, which is reflective in our applicant

numbers. We have gained a 10% increase within our primary recruiting areas and

also a 66% increase in our secondary recruitment areas.

Macon/Atlanta Region:

The information represented in the graph reflects a substantial increase in

applications for the Macon/Metro Atlanta region with more targeted recruitment

efforts. The additional housing shows the necessity for increased and expanded

Atlanta recruitment.

The numbers prove to show a 40% increase within the primary recruiting areas

and a 45% increase in the secondary recruiting areas. With our campuses and

Macon/Atlanta numbers continually growing, we are in a prime position to

capitalize on the benefits we provide to a large majority of the students within

these areas.

Statesboro/Savannah Region:

Previous years have reflected a decrease in the Chatham and Effingham counties

however, the addition of a half – time recruiter dedicated specifically to these

have proven to be a valuable asset. The overall increase in application is at 22%

throughout the entire region and with the increase in on campus housing, it will

continually increase.

Augusta Region:

Recruitment efforts in the Augusta region have proven to increase applicants as

well. The overall increase in the region is at 46% with majority of the increase

coming through Richmond County. The numbers represented are not inclusive of

Edgefield and Aiken, SC which are counties that receive the border waiver.

Particularly in the Augusta, Statesboro/Savannah and Southeast Region the spike

in numbers can be attributed to the new housing availability, increased

recruitment and through the East Georgia State College President’s Tour. We as

East Georgia State College have the opportunity to continue to build upon the

foundation that has been laid and our continued efforts will directly be shown in

our numbers.

Recruiting Opportunities

College Fairs, Senior Nights, College Readiness Tour, & Apply to College Day

One avenue for recruiting students to East Georgia State College is the use and

proper scheduling of High School Senior Nights and also College, Career and Probe

Fairs.

Along with these various types of recruitment events, local high schools,

community groups and organizations may also sponsor college and career fairs for

students within their communities. These fairs provide the EGSC the opportunity

to meet and connect with prospective students, share information on the benefits

of EGSC, also answering student’s potential questions in person and providing

exposure in areas that prospective students may not know about the institution.

It is paramount that while at recruitment events, recruiters not only connect and

engage with prospective students but also with counselors/community officers

and even other recruiters. This is done to reach out and learn of different

recruitments events, to increase the awareness of EGSC and to also learn new

practices and strategies other institutions use that may be beneficial to EGSC.

Page 16: Recruitment Plan 2015-2016 Rough Draft_Moran Version

Admissions 2015-2016 Recruitment Plan

16

High School Visits/ Recruiter-Counselor Relationship

During the recruitment season, recruiters will make a series of scheduled high

school lunch visits to meet with both prospective students and counselors.

Recruiters are required to make initial contact with counselors/school officials on

the specific time and date in which they should visit.

Recruiters should make it a priority to visit schools within their area no less than

twice per semester. The goal is to saturate each school within our given recruiting

territories, marketing and building upon the brand that East Georgia State College

represents. Recruiters will utilize all available forms of communication to

persistently maintain professional relationships with counselors and prospective

students to retrieve any/all documentation needed that may yield the acceptance

process.

It is essential for recruiters to know that when visiting schools, it is your duty to

notify the counselor of any documentation that a prospective student may be

missing which may yield that acceptance process.

Lunch visits are crucial in developing relationships with counselors/school officials

because they’re the road that drives students to the institution. Understand that

maintaining proper contact with the high school counselors in your assigned

recruiting area provide the avenue to prospective students and establish valuable

relationships.

Campus Events

Campus events are vital to both the recruitment of students and parents as well

as the building of the EGSC brand. It provides the prospective students with a real

encounter of what it is like to be a part of the bobcat family.

It is important to understand the entire East Georgia State College family is

needed in making these events successful. From current students, to faculty and

staff participation; it is crucial each area is represented on campus because it

fuels the surreal experience a student can have on a daily basis during their

collegiate tenure at EGSC. We can provide these experiences through the use of

Open House, Orientation, Campus Tours, Athletic Venues, and much more.

It is paramount that each department and office is present and accounted for

during these events. East Georgia State College cannot solely rely on one office

and department for the production and implementation of such key events that

have such a profound impact in what we do every day.

Marketing EGSC

More times than not, prospective student’s first impression of an institution

derive from two sources: what they hear/learn from their friends and family and

what they see for themselves. Then, if the prospective student is induced by the

brief knowledge they’ve acquired, they’ll refer to the institutions website or print

media.

It is paramount that we at East Georgia State College create and effectively

communicate the message of “Great Beginnings”, without being a financial

hindrance through our media whether that is printed or electronically. For

recruitment purposes, having unique and relevant information or items on our

tables attract and build interest in prospective students and parents. As EGSC

continually gains more exposure, developing and building upon the brand we

have now is vital to our success.

Within our print media, our message should be clear and concise as to what we

offer and why the student can directly benefit from EGSC. As technology

continually grows within the world today and as we move away from paper

applications the EGA.edu website is crucial in our marketing and recruitment

efforts.

For prospective student easy access to EGSC website and timely responses to

their emails and inquiries allows for East Georgia State College to separate

ourselves from our competitors and turning prospective students away.

Prospective Student Management

Prospective student management remains a vital part of our jobs as admissions

representatives. Through our efforts in recruitment cards, communications via

email and phone we have to remain diligent in communicating and assisting

prospective students all the way through the admissions process. The established

outlets in which we monitor out prospective student are crucial in how we are

able to separate ourselves from competing institutions.

We cannot become complacent with just expressing of the benefits that East

Georgia State College offer; it is our duty to make sure we are providing

prospective students and parents with the very best service and assistance

possible in getting through the tedious college acceptance process.

Proposed Campus Advancement- Swainsboro, Statesboro, & Augusta

As stated prior in the Recruitment Plan, East Georgia State College truly is the

Gem of the University System of Georgia. We are at a vital stage in our growth

both on and off campus. With enrollment numbers increasing in our assigned

regions, there is no better time to capitalize on the opportunity to expand and

reach more students than now. From the new bobcat villas being constructed, to

more faculty and staff being hired, to new development projects, the time to

expand is now.

Within the Metro Atlanta area, the Henry, Clayton, Cobb and Rockdale counties

are of in dire need of what we offer as an institution. Expanding into these areas

will prove to be beneficial due to our institutional fit for most of the students

attending these high schools. Within the past year without any recruitment in

these areas we had over 150 students apply for admission to EGSC. As the Office

of Admissions it is important that we supply water to crops that produce and pull

back the water where the crops are dead and no longer produce.

In regards to Statesboro Campus Recruitment, we propose an expansion of

recruiting territory into Screven County as data shows from point in time that our

EGSC- Statesboro Campus receives 76% of total applications from that particular

county compared to our other campus application numbers. Screven County has

been a vital source of enrollment throughout the years particularly to our

Statesboro Campus. It would deem it necessary to use our part-time recruiter

from our Statesboro Campus to focus more attention on the interest of EGSC-

Statesboro Campus. With the addition of Screven County, it is proposed Candler

County can be driven by recruiters of the Swainsboro Campus as much more

interest for that campus in focused there by our prospects.

1. Add Screven County and remove Candler County from Statesboro Campus Recruiting Territory

Screven County 1508 Applications as of 6/18: 114 Statesboro/36 Swainsboro

Candler County 1508 Applications as of 6/18: 48 Statesboro/84 Swainsboro
