My Brothers and Sisters in the Lord: “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). During the Last Supper, on the eve of His Sacred Passion, the Lords Jesus reassured the Apostles that even though troubling days were ahead, God’s grace and peace would not be lacking. We should take solace in these words, which are also directed to each one of us. How do we overcome fear and anxiety? One way is to close the paths that lead to worry: limiting exposure to sensationalist media, striving to be uplifting in conversations and avoiding complaining about things over which one has little or no control, and making the effort to grow in charity, since “perfect love casts our fear” (I John 4:18). We might also want to recall the words of St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), “Pray, hope, don’t worry.” I am deeply grateful to those of you who have responded to my recent appeal for continued financial support of the parish. Our summer offer-tory dropped significantly, and I have had to furlough or lay-off several employees. In addition, due to decreased enrollment and uncertain economic conditions, our S.E.E.D.S. pre-school will not reopen this fall. While we are still running a seasonal deficit, your generous stewardship has enabled the parish to close the gap considerably. In August, we will run a significant surplus, which will allow us to make up for much of the summer shortfall. If you have not yet registered with our on-line giving program, I encour-age you to do so. Simply go to the website, www.FaithDirect.net and enter our parish code, TX417. You will be able to set up a regular sched-ule of giving, or make a one-time contribution. Now that things are beginning to get back to normal, I encourage you to register your children for our upcoming religious education classes. You may enroll on-line or by visiting the parish office. Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Continued from the cover page… was not the common light at all, but something different, utterly different, from all those things. Nor was it higher than my mind in the sense that oil floats on water or the sky is above the earth; it was exalted because this very light made me, and I was below it because by it I was made. Anyone who knows truth knows this light. O eternal Truth, true Love, and beloved Eternity, you are my God, and for you I sigh day and night. As I first began to know you, you lifted me up and showed me that, while that which I might see exists indeed, I was not yet capable of seeing it. Your rays beamed intensely on me, beating back my feeble gaze, and I trembled with love and dread. I knew myself to be far away from you in a region of unlike-ness, and I seemed to hear your voice from on high: “I am the food of the mature: grow, then, and you shall eat me. You will not change me into yourself like bodily food; but you will be changed into me.” Accordingly I looked for a way to gain the strength I need-ed to enjoy you, but I did not find it until I embraced the mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who is also God, supreme over all things and blessed for ever. He called out, proclaiming I am the Way and Truth and the Life, nor had I known him as the food which, though I was not yet strong enough to eat it, he had min-gled with our flesh, for the Word became flesh so that your Wisdom, through whom you created all things, might be-come for us the milk adapted to our infancy. Late have I loved you, Beauty so ancient and so new, late have I loved you! Lo, you were within, but I outside, seeking there for you, and upon the shapely things you have made I rushed headlong – I, misshapen. You were with me, but I was not with you. They held me back far from you, those things which would have no being, were they not in you. You called, shouted, broke through my deafness; you flared, blazed, banished my blindness; you lavished your fragrance, I gasped; and now I pant for you; I tasted you, and now I hunger and thirst; you touched me, and I burned for your peace.

Pasos básicos para confesarse Entra al confesionario sin miedo, confiando en la misericordia de Jesús: Penitente: Ave María Purísima Sacerdote: Sin pecado concebida. Penitente: Bendígame padre porque he pe cado.

How to go to Confession

In order to make a good confession, we examine our conscience, asking God’s help to know our sins and to be truly sorry for them.

R i te of Reconci l iat ion

Priest: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Penitent: Amen. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been (say how long) since my last confession. My sins are (confess your sins). When you are done, the priest will give you spir-itual advice and assign a penance. He will then ask you to pray an Act of Contrition, for example: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

- or- O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offend-ed Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve wit the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen. The Priest then says the Prayer of Absolution while the penitent listens. At the conclusion of the prayer, make the sign of the Cross and say, “Amen.” Priest: Go in peace Penitent: Thanks be to God Complete your penance as soon as possible. If you were given prayers to say, try to pray them in church before departing.

How to Make a Good Confession Confession is not difficult, but it does require preparation. We should begin with prayer, placing ourselves in the presence of God, our loving Father. We seek healing and forgiveness through repentance and a resolve to sin no more. Then we review our lives since our last confession, search-ing our thoughts, words and actions for that which did not conform to God’s command to love Him and one another through His laws and the laws of His Church. This is called an examination of conscience. Examination of Conscience Ask God to help you make a good confession. In quiet reflection ask yourself: Since my last confession… Did I pray to God, daily and from my heart? Did I live and witness to my Catholic faith, joyfully &

courageously? Did I take God’s name in vain? Did I curse anyone or make false oaths? Did I engage in superstitious or occult practices?

Did I attend and participate actively at Mass on Sun-days and holy days of obligation? Did I fast & abstain on prescribed days?

Did I respect people in authority? My employer? Did I honor my parents?

Was I violent or unnecessarily aggressive (e.g., physi-cally, verbally, psychologically, etc.) with anyone?

Was I prideful, stubborn, or rude with anyone? Did I hold a grudge?

Did I abuse alcohol, prescription medications, or ille-gal drugs? Did I overindulge in food?

Did I consent to, recommend, advise, or actively take part in an abortion? Did I use abortifacient drugs?

Did I view pornography, entertain lustful thoughts, conversations or actions?

Was I unloving to my spouse? Did I engage in adul-terous activity (e.g., sexual, emotional, virtual, etc.)? Did I use contraceptives?

Was I neglectful of the spiritual, intellectual, emotion-al, or physical needs of my spouse, children, or fami-ly?

Did I steal or damage another’s property? Was I hon-est and just in my business relations? Did I waste time at work?

Did I contribute to the needs of the spiritually and materially poor with my time and resources?

Did I engage in gossip? Did I lie? Did I speak poorly of others? Did I judge anyone unfairly?

Did I envy anyone? Was I jealous of others or or cov-et another’s belongings?

All individuals must complete the training and complete a background check prior to the start of employment and/or volunteer service. As the five-year anniversary date is met, individuals will need to log into CMGConnect with their previous personal VIRTUS user id and 1234 as the password. Once the individ-ual logs into their CMGConnect account, they will be able to change their password. If they do not remember the user id, they may contact the following:

Daphne Woods at 800.228.6108 ext. 2375 or [email protected] CMG at [email protected]

Monthly Devotion September is dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady. Meditation on the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady is a way of sharing in the sorrows of Mary’s life. There are seven sorrows of Mary: The prophecy of Simeon The flight into Egypt Losing Jesus for three days when he was in the Temple Meeting Jesus on his way to Calvary Jesus' crucifixion and death Jesus' being taken down from the Cross Jesus being laid in the Tomb As we pray one Our Father, seven Hail Marys, and one Glory Be for each sorrow, we ponder the pain she endured, and we ask her to help us understand the evil we have done, and to lead us to repentance. By joining our sorrows with Mary’s, as she joined her sacrifices with those of her Son, we partici-pate in the work of our redemp on and that of the whole

world.
