Thursday 31 st October 2019 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, I hope that you are enjoying our spring weather. I am looking forward to our whole school Colour Fun Run on Friday 1st November from 1:40pm on the oval. Thank you to our students and you as a community for the fundraising efforts. The funds raised will be put towards improving our library. Thank you also to the FUNdraising Committee for all of their organisation for this event This term we will be focussing on improving our attendance and arrival times at school. Research has demonstrated that poor school attendance is associated with lower achievement in literacy and numeracy. Children’s reading performance is directly related to school attendance. Every day matters in the school life of a child or young person. Each day of attendance has a positive effect on their development and future success. This is one of the reasons that we have introduced the Whole School Huddle each morning. Students who are present have the chance to win a voucher from the canteen if their name is selected. Please make an appointment to see someone in leadership if you are having difficulty in getting your child to school every day on time. If we are aware of the problems you are facing then we may be able to put strategies in place to assist you in improving your child’s attendance. Often a problem shared is a problem halved. STUDENT ENROLMENTS 2020

To assist us with our class placements for 2020 it is critical that we know the likely number of student enrolments we will have in 2020. If your child/children will not be at Christies Beach Primary School in 2020 we ask that you please update your child’s class teacher or a member of the front office staff. A small reduction in student numbers can have a

significant impact on our class structures for next year.

Even if you are unsure, notification as such would be

appreciated.

SECONDHAND UNIFORM Our supply of secondhand uniforms is extremely low. If you have any articles of uniform that your child/ren have grown out of and wish to donate to the school, they can be dropped off at the front office. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

FOR SALE - SCHOOL DRESS We have 2 secondhand Size 4 school uniforms in the front office for sale for $20 each. Both are in good condition. Please see Michelle in the Front Office if you are interested.

DISTRICT SELECTION A huge congratulations to Hayley Loman and Ruby

Graetz who have been selected to represent the

Onkaparinga North District for tennis and cricket.

CHILDREN’S WEEK AWARD Congratulations to Arnold Baird for receiving a South

Australian Children’s Week Award for his leadership

and cultural contribution in the community, which was

presented by the Governor of South Australia. Arnold

loves playing the Yidaki and encourages other young

people to be proud of their identity. He has performed

for many artists and events, including opening for

William Barton and the Australian String Quartet.

2019 BEACH SONG - WE ARE

It’s that time of year again for you to come hear the Christies Beach students come together to sing in unison for this year’s beach song. The ‘Music. Count Us In’ program is Australia’s biggest school initiative. With support from The Australian Government, it has run since 2007 and is all about celebrating the value of music education to students’ development, whoever they are, wherever they are. Last year over 500,000 students from schools all over Australia signed up to learn, rehearse, and then perform the same song, on the same day, at the same time. Here at Christies Beach, we have received recognition for participating every year since its inception. We refer to it as our ‘Beach Song’. Learning music at school makes a unique contribution to children's development. It also helps students enjoy going to school each day. For decades, countless studies have found links between learning music and a broad range of positive impacts on children and adolescents. Music improves students' team skills and self-esteem and helps their progress in other important learning areas such as Maths and English. This years’ beach song is called “We Are” and we will be performing the song on the sand at Christies Beach

on Thursday November 7th. In order to sing this year’s song in unison with at least 2,100 schools across Australia we must start at 12pm. We would love for you to join us just before this time so you don’t miss hearing the entire school sing and perform the Auslan translation. All classes will be walking down to the beach access ramp at the end of Beach Road. Please speak to your individual class teacher about their plans and let them know if you are able to assist classes to walk down. In the event of bad weather, we will perform in the school gym. We hope to see you there.

GIRLS FOOTBALL STATE FINALS

Last Monday and Tuesday our Upper Primary girls competed in the State Finals for the 9-a-side football competition. With very little training our girls worked exceptionally well together, beating the likes of Burnside and Walkerville Primary, gaining a position in the top division in the State. On the second day they came up against some tougher opposition, losing to the eventual winners by only a few points. The girls finished a very impressive 3rd place in the State, beating many schools who are triple our size. This is an amazing feat and all of the girls improved their skills across the duration of the year. Congratulations girls!
