The summarized benefits of the WIS implementation are: Greatly increased resolution, the actual shape of the individual defects can be seen as digital shot The refurbished PM frame enables early recognition and elimination of periodic defects sources Even with more detected defects the reject volume did not increase, because the small defects can be now patched at rewinding . The defects detection reliability and documentation put the mill into much stronger position in claims proceedings, enabling the mill to decline the complaints verifiably not caused by paper defect. The annual claims’ settling expenses decreased by 67.6% in 2004 – 2005 comparison. Mr. …………, the Engineering Department Manager, adds: “ The exceptional results, attained with Honeywelll’s WIS, supported our decision to choose Honeywell as supplier of our next purchase –the Web Monitoring System (WMS). We hope for same successful implementation and same beneficial effects of WMS, as we’ve experienced with WIS.”

RE: Honeywell's Web Imaging System installed

“The Honeywell’s Web Imaging System purchase became one of the best investmentdecisions in the recent history of our corporation – ………………….”

Mr. ………………; Engineering Dpt. Manager,

The Honeywell Web Imaging System (WIS) was installed in … Paper Mill. The new system replacedand substantially augmented the previously (1997) installed Honeywell-Measurex-Roibox WebInspection System, comprising 1 inspection frame with 4 cameras.

The former system was originally installed on paper machine. A lot of defects , which were small, undetected ornegligible in paper machine were boosted up by supercalendering and progressed to the final product. As a result,very high complaints rate from the mill’s customers caused enormous claims’ settling costs to the mill. Theinspection frame was then moved to the rewinder, where the final product could be inspected. The resolution ofthe old system was insufficient to distinguish the seriousness of the defect. The whole rolls containing detecteddefects were therefore rejected to broke as precautionary measure. This step helped to reduce the claims, but thesignificant broke increase caused, that the overall loss was not reduced.

The base of the new system (2 calender WISs) was installed in November 2004 and wholeconfiguration was commissioned (in several following steps – Roibox frame upgrade and installation,edge markers, AWA system implementation ) during the Nov.2004 to Nov.2005 period. The completesystem was accepted on Nov.2nd,2005.In detail, the new WIS system components are:

o On each supercalender (SC1&SC2) WIS frame with 6 (40MHz 2048 pixels) cameras, pixelresolution CD: 0.35mm;

MD:0.72mm Camera support units (CSU) WIS server and operator station Precision edge-marking system (exact sheet length encoding)

o On paper machine PM7 Upgraded WIS frame with 4 (40MHz 2048 pixels) cameras, pixelresolution CD:

0.52mm; MD:0.71mm Camera support units (CSU) WIS server and operator station Edge color marker (defect position marked)

o On the rewinder Edge marks reader (1 camera) Camera support units (CSU) and server/operator station Advanced Winder Advisor SW, able to stop the rewinder on selected defects with

±20cm precisionThe whole system is now fully operational, all functions work reliably. The summarized benefits of theWIS implementation are: Greatly increased resolution, the actual shape of the individual defects can be seen as digital shot The refurbished PM frame enables early recognition and elimination of

periodic defects sources Even with more detected defects the reject volume did not increase,

because the small defects can be now patched at rewinding . The defects detection reliability and documentation put the mill into much

stronger position in claims proceedings, enabling the mill to decline thecomplaints verifiably not caused by paper defect.

The annual claims’ settling expenses decreased by 67.6% in 2004 –2005 comparison.

Mr. …………, the Engineering Department Manager, adds:“ The exceptional results, attained with Honeywelll’s WIS, supported our decision to chooseHoneywell as supplier of our next purchase –the Web Monitoring System (WMS). We hopefor same successful implementation and same beneficial effects of WMS, as we’veexperienced with WIS.”
