Raising Attainment in Schools

The curriculum should be designed on the basis of the following principles:• Challenge and enjoyment• Breadth• Progression• Depth• Personalisation and choice• Coherence• RelevanceThe principles must be taken into account for all children and young people

What is peer and self-assessment?• Constructivist model

• ‘Assessment by pupils, far from being a luxury is an essential part of formative assessment.’ Black and Wiliam.

• A skill for life long learning

• Peer tutoring -Evidence that children can benefit from instruction provided by a more capable peer.

Why is it important?

• Feedback

• Helps the teacher with their assessment

• Study - comment based marking found to be best form of feedback.

What happens in our school?

• School policy

• Comparison with High School and Primary School.

How will we develop this in the future...

• Peer tutoring in primary.

• Self assessment and reward system in secondary.

• Adapting what we have seen in our observations and transferring it into our own lessons.

• Building up a bank of assessment methods.
