Dear parents, grandparents & parishioners, With just over a week to this year’s Summer Fair - there is still time to pass on those well- conditioned books, toys and games which are no longer played with. We have so many exciting activities going on in the background, with regards to Friends preparation for the fair. Please don’t forget the date, and if you can lend a hand, please contact school. It’s been a very hot week at SHB and I ask again that parents ensure that all children have sun screen that lasts for 8 hours. A summer hat and a water bottle are also welcomed in school. We have lots of shade and we encourage children not to play in the sun for too long. On Monday, Y3 will venture on their first residential visit. The children are very excited and we will all be waving them off as they head to Gibside. This week has been action-packed, with activity starting with the CAFOD visit from Margaret. The children in Years 3 and Y4 received a wonderful workshop. Many thanks to all Y2 parents and grandparents who attended Miss Bray's liturgy on Tuesday. The children were exceptional and deserved so much credit in their last liturgy of the year. On Wednesday, our new parents attended the second induction evening for the New Year, and Miss Barrass, Miss Scott and Miss Wise talked through the EYFS curriculum and timetable arrangements. This followed up by a transition morning for nursery children on Thursday. Today, we congratulate our amazing Athletics teams from Y4, Y5 and Y6, who took part in athletics at Gateshead Stadium. The children were simply amazing- running, jumping and throwing in so many events. Finally, thank you to all who attended todays Y3 class assembly. Congratulations to Year 3 who had 99% attendance this week

Well done to Year 1, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 who achieved our 95% target!

This week our overall attendance was 95% Please ensure that you make every effort to ensure your child gets to school every day to help us achieve our

target.

Dear parents, grandparents & parishioners,

With just over a week to this year’s Summer Fair - there is still time to pass on those well-conditioned books, toys and games which are no longer played with.

Finally, thank you to all who attended today’s Y3 class assembly. Although I missed the assembly due to supporting the Athletics team, apparently it was a real treat. I look forward to the Facebook feature very soon. A big well done to all the class.

TO GO!

RAFFLE TICKETS FOR THE SUMMER FAIR HAVE BEEN SENT HOME TONIGHT

IN EVERY CHILD’S BAG. PLEASE RETURN ANY STUBS WITH CASH, TO THE

SCHOOL OFFICE BY FRIDAY 6TH JULY. THANK YOU.

Reception B free their butterflies.

NEWS God will provide: Well done to the children of Year 2, who today

held their final KS1 Liturgy. Parents, friends and families joined

us to celebrate the Word of God and how He will provide for us.

Thank you for all those who attended.

Craft Club: On Wednesday, our KS1

Crafters has great fun making their own

ice lollies. Very appropriate too,

considering the temperatures this week.

Everyone shout, “I love ice lollies.”

CAFOD Visit: On Tuesday, Margaret from CAFOD visited Year 3 and Year 4 to talk about life as a

refugee. The children took part in activities, which involved them working in groups and imagining they

were a group of refugees. They learnt that lots of families have been separated, which has caused distress and upset. The

children emphasised with refugees and the lives they currently lead, or have led. We then gathered together to reflect and pray

for refugees around the world.

Blue Peter Badges: Two of our pupils have received a Blue Peter badge for brilliant

writing. A big well done from everyone at Sacred Heart.

Sun Cream: Two of our Reception children are very concerned that some children do

not have sun cream or hats to protect them from the sun. They have written a letter to

Mr Naughton and parents to ask if everyone could bring in sun cream for their child.

Reception Butterflies: We had a very exciting day

in Reception W yesterday, when some of our

butterflies began to emerge. The children have been

transfixed by the transformation of caterpillars into

beautiful butterflies, and spent lots of time yesterday

making birthday cards for the butterflies and singing

happy birthday to welcome them into the world.

The Year 6 children were given a pleasant surprise

this week as they walked out onto the school yard;

they had their very own leavers’ plaque. This is a

tradition started in 2016 and ensures that the current

Year 6 leavers will forever be remembered, with their

names proudly on display. Thank you to the families

of our Year 6 children who raised the funds to buy

the plaque. The children really appreciate it.

Athletics Festival: Well done to all the

children who competed in the Primary

School Athletics Festival on Friday 29th

June. Sacred Heart took a team of 24

children to compete against 50 other

schools at the Gateshead International Stadium. It was a beautiful day and

the children really enjoyed participating in a variety of field, track and

relay/middle distance events. The children were brilliant all day long in

cheering and supporting each other and were a real credit to Sacred Heart.

Well done.

Hope for the Homeless: Hope, in Year 1, went out to deliver back packs which she had made up with sweets, biscuits, tissues,

socks, gloves and wipes to homeless people in Newcastle city centre. Hope added a little note in each. She had watched the

film Lion and The Greatest Showman and asked her mum if she could help homeless people. Mum’s friend works for the charity

called ‘HOPE’ and said Hope could help. So on Saturday, Hope went out with two helpers Louise and Graham from the charity

and visited the streets of Newcastle. She found three homeless young men altogether and chatted to each of them for around

20 minutes each. Hope handed out the back packs and bought the men coffees from her own pocket money. One young man

named Liam said it was a huge thing for him to have company and someone to talk to for a little while. He was very emotional

getting Hope’s note. Hope said she would love to do this again and help the homeless more. What a superstar!

World Cup fever hits the kitchen. The children thoroughly

enjoyed some World Cup themed biscuits and cakes on Thursday.

Runners of the Week: A big well done to two of our students for

winning runner of the week at DVTR. They will each be receiving

a certificate for completing 50 runs within the club. Well done from

everyone at Sacred Heart.

Girls Football: Last Friday afternoon, our Year 5 girls’ football

team took part in the SSP girls’ football tournament. They played

exceptionally and ended up coming second. Well done girls.

E-Safety: This week, Year 4 created some fantastic acrostic

poems about staying safe online. Their main focus was being

share aware. Well done, Year 4.

Netball: The Year 5/6 netball girls were

mascots for team Northumbria last

week in their last game of the season.

Year 3 Class Assembly: Today was Year 3's class assembly all about

'The History of our Home'. The children loved learning all about our

local area and had great fun learning our famous Geordie songs. It was

lovely to see so many parents turn up to share this special assembly

with the children.

Fun in the Sun: We’ve seen some beautiful weather this week and well

done to all children who have brought in sun cream and hats to school.

MEMOS AND REMINDERS

Summer PE Lessons: Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school for every PE

lesson. We wouldn’t want them to miss out on the wonderful summer sporting activities our

school has to offer.

Safeguarding Notice: Please do not open the door in the Main Entrance for people if you

are in the reception area. The office and Heart Zone staff will buzz visitors/parents through.

DATE CHANGE: Apologies to anyone who has booked a work holiday for this year’s KS2

Sports Day, which is was Tuesday 10th July in the afternoon. Following a change of transition

dates for Y6 leavers, we have decided to move the date, as many children would miss the

Sports Day. KS2 will now take place on Friday 6th July from 9.30am til 12.00am. Little Hearts

and KS1 Sports day will still take place in the morning of July 10th at 10-12 am.

Year 5 (Sept 2018) Residential: Kingswood meeting for the Year 4 children going into Year 5 will take place on Monday 2nd

July after school.

Fancy dress Competition: A fancy dress competition will be taking place on the day of the Summer Fair.

The theme is the circus. It will be 50p entry and children will be judged in categories (EY/KS1/KS2 and

Older). Parents are welcome to dress up too. Registration forms

Summer Fair donation days: Thank you to everyone for coming in non-uniform today and for donating

so many gifts for our Summer Fair stalls. We are having 'non-uniform donation days' every Friday from now until our Summer

Fair. Please see the list below to know what we are collecting each week.
