Introducing Hawai‘i Public Radio’s new logo:
This new visual is a re-voicing of HPR's enduring qualities. After 35 years, HPR has established roots in its community. Enfolded in the public’s trust and support, we reach out to bridge that which divides and stand ready to embrace the future. Our simple sound waves bring the world to Hawai‘i, and Hawai‘i’s stories to the world. We are HPR.

0 1 H AWA I ‘ I P U B L I C R A D I O
We are pleased to share with you here the wealth of programs you will find on HPR’s two stations.
• HPR-1 – timely news and information, as well as contemporary music and entertainment
• HPR-2 – your home for classical music and other timeless explorations
In February 2017, we celebrate HPR’s 35th anniversary with a realignment of our programs along these two distinct formats. This is the fulfillment of a promise made at the stations founding, and realized over the years through the generous contributions of many thousands of member donors and hundreds of business underwriters. Their support made possible the expansion of HPR’s network to include service across the Hawaiian islands – sometimes to populations in remote locations where our broadcast signal is the only one received.
With the more recent digital developments in our medium, Hawai‘i Public Radio and the unique stories we are privileged to tell now also belong to the world. We encourage you to find us streaming on your computer or via our free mobile app, wherever you may be tuning in.
Hawai‘i Public Radio’s future depends, as it always has, on the strength of our community support. We hope the newly aligned programming leads to many hours of enlightening and pleasurable listening – and the realization that it’s individuals like you who help keep these local, national, and international programs coming to you.
• If you are not yet a member, help sustain the programs you value by signing up for monthly contributions from the account of your choice.
• Current members, your additional gifts or increases in sustaining donation amounts help us to continue growing and improving this service.
• If your company is interested in becoming a program sponsor, please give our Underwriting department a call.
Thank you for lending us your ears. We promise to return them with a bigger brain and a softer heart attached!
Aloha,
José A. FajardoPresident and General Manager

A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANIONSUN 7 – 9PM
Based on the live variety shows of the early years of the Grand Ole Opry, A Prairie Home Companion has had an infusion of new blood. Before he retired, show creator and host Garrison Keillor hand picked singer, songwriter, and mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile as his heir. Thile has broadened the show’s musical line-up and offers as his signature piece the “Song of the Week,” with his original lyrics and instrumentation on a topic currently in the news. (HPR has presented nationally broadcast live tapings of APHC in Honolulu four times.)

A unique production of HPR, hosted by Guy Steele.
SINGING AND OTHER SINSSAT 5 – 6PM
Originally called Great Songs, this is one of HPR’s longest running, locally produced programs (originating in 1988), and the only remaining radio broadcast worldwide dedicated to the classical art song. Local host Gary Hickling offers art songs in the context of other music of the composer or period, thus providing context. After a non-art song interlude, he repeats the song (often by a different voice type or interpretation) to give the listener a better chance to enjoy them.

The two-minute program from the McDonald Observatory in Austin, Texas, helps listeners learn more about astronomy and space exploration. Find out what to look for in the night sky, what goes on inside stars and distant galaxies, and hear about new space missions.

Program Underwriters, Foundations
HPR is truly locally managed and locally funded, a critical function of our independence. Aside from the individuals who contribute to HPR’s operating funds, the single outstanding group of HPR supporters are the program underwriters and foundations who support the programming not only with financial generosity but choose to affiliate their names with the public radio community. Together, the members, underwriters and foundations make up 94% of HPR’s support, and we are very grateful to every one of them.
