AGM Video

For the second year running the club produced a video

review of the club’s actvities for the AGM. Produced by

Jane Reason and Mark Foot with assistance from Jane

Beale, the video features recent develoments in Quinta

do Lago, a review of competitions and competition

winners, and a detailed insight into the interior design

plan for the new clubhouse. It is all linked by the dulcet

tones of a commentary from Seamus Elmore.

The video is available for viewing on YouTube at the

following link. http://is.gd/A9cPdY

Following the changes to the tees on North 9 and North 15

(see Quintassential Issues 49 & 50) it was necessary to have

these holes re-rated for handicap purposes. This work was

done in early March by accredited course raters from the

Portuguese Golf Federation. Mark Foot went along to see

for himself the work that they do and to get a better

understanding of what is involved. He was impressed with

the thoroughness of the assessment of each hole and the

appreciation of the unique obstacles that each presents.

“Each hole takes about an hour and a half to rate in full. The

methodology used by the raters enables them to build up a

very complete yet empirical and objective assessment of

the difficulty of the hole from whichever tee and for the

different standards of golfer.”

The overall alterations to the holes were significant on a

hole-by-hole basis and therefore made major changes to

the 9 hole course ratings, but made negligible difference

(0.1) to the overall course and slope rating. The net

difference was so small because, in layman’s terms, the

extra length of the 15th was almost exactly compensated

by the reduced length on the 9th. Owing to this, and with

due consideration that the courses must be re-rated before

August 2012, the PGF committee decided not to change the

course and slope rating tables in the interim.

Following the last report on the works to the Driving range we are pleased to announce that the extensive

renovation works are nearing completion and are due to open in May 2011.

The Driving range will now offer target greens at 75m, 100m, 150m, 175m and 200m distances; 30 artificial mats,

a two tiered grassed teeing area in excess of 2000sqm, and a 300 sqm chipping and putting area right in front of

Koko Lane. All tees and greens are built to USGA specification.
