question 7
TRANSCRIPT
Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you
have learnt from it to the full product?
Question 7
I have learned an increased amount of knowledge since
completing the preliminary task, for example what is needed to
follow the conventions of a magazine this includes the
structure/layout of pages, the quality and range of images used on
such pages which need to relate to the theme of the magazine and
what the article is based upon.
The variety of technologies used in the construction of a
magazine is important, when looking back on my preliminary task I
only used two images though strongly emphasising the theme of my
article and magazine the images were not as interesting, I did not
vary the angle and position of the camera to create a more bold
image. During my photoshoots I varied the positioning of my models
and the camera, the light settings to increase/decrease shadow and
a diverse range of props to express meaning or representations.
I have made alterations to my magazine over the constructive
process, these changes have been done to work with the
conventions of a music magazine.

In comparison to my preliminary task my knowledge of
photoshop has improved, I found the task of designing a school
magazine quite difficult as I was not experienced in Photoshop
nor was I able to use it as the settings and functions of the
software was new to me.
During the creation of my school magazine (preliminary task)
I was able to pick up on the foundations of photoshop, the tools
and settings required to vary the fonts and placing of images.
This benefited me in preparation for my main task of constructing
my own music magazine, the skills I learned during the
preliminary task were most useful but I was able to advance my
knowledge of these skills to benefit the layout and design of my
pages.
I have learned a variety of new techniques with photoshop
such as colour range, text effects- drop shadow, and using very
effective tools when cutting out an image this involves being able
to feather the image making the outline softer and smoother.
Preliminary task (school magazine) Music magazine
During my photoshoot I learned how to operate the equipment such as
the flash head, reflective umbrella and the advanced setting and options
available on a digital DSLR camera.
When taking my photos I included a variety of props such as a straw
hat, red microphone, a acoustic guitar and a mobile phone all of which to
represent parts to my music magazine. For instance my double page spread
has an image of one of my models using her phone with a pull quote located
next to her saying “I was in my own world” the phone was used to represent
the artist being involved more with her phone than noticing the camera, she
has escaped to a different world for that moment. I have varied the lighting in
my images to create contrast and to either enhance or decrease the shadow
on the model.
