In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge the forms and conventions

of real media product?

Page 2: DocumentQ1

Main Image • In my main image the artist is

using the convention ‘the gaze’ as a direct mode of address which makes him look welcoming and captures the readers attention. I've also used generic clothes that would be typically expected in a rock magazine to meet the conventions. I have also added in drumsticks because I felt my picture was too plain and didn’t have an obvious connection with music, although this isn't as typical in magazines as the artists are normally well established in the music industry.

Masthead• I have made the

masthead purposefully large to grab the viewers eye and make sure they know who makes the magazine. I have made the masthead black and white and made it grainy to create a brand image that is easily recognisable for the buyers and viewers.

Cover lines • I have used cover lines to

create interesting subjects to intrigue the reader for example the plug is large and pops out which is interesting and catches their eye.

Straplines• I have used the

strapline to leak interesting information about the contents of the magazine to lure the viewer in to reading and buying the magazine. This is a typical use in a magazine

Main Cover line• My main cover line is bold

and swamps the middle of the magazine drawing attention to it. My main cover line is the biggest text on the magazine which is challenging the conventions of a typically magazine because it Is often the second largest text. I have made it the largest although because I feel as it is issue one and an un-established magazine it Is better to capture the reader attention with an established artist

Barcode and price • I have left barcode in the

bottom right to keep attention on the magazine which is a generic convention of any magazine. Although I have not hid the price and kept it hidden as my magazine is a lot cheaper than the average magazine so I felt keeping in plain sight will be a positive rather than a negative in attracting a potential buyer.
