Admission passes are not required, all are welcome.

Boys and girls, moms and dads and grandparents are invited to come to the Library and trick-or-treat along with their favorite storybook and nursery rhyme friends. Walk through Storybook Land and meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Snow White, Fancy Nancy, Elsa from the movie Frozen, and many more of your all-time favorites. Plan on spending about 30-minutes trick-or-treating with our storybook characters and remember your cameras! No strollers, please! Registration begins online October 1st.

Dyker Heights Holiday Lights TourWednesday, December 3rdBus Departs from the Library at 2:00 PM

The Friends have planned an early dinner at Gino’s Restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (a favorite dining spot of Brooklynites “In the know”). You will select an entree of your choice from a limited menu at the restaurant. After dinner we will meet our step-on guide for a 2-hour tour of Dyker Heights to see the most extravagant Christmas light displays in this Brooklyn community and end with a stop at Mona Lisa Pastry Shoppe & Cafe for a cannoli and cappucino. The bus will depart from Brooklyn at approxi-mately 10 PM. The cost of this trip is $95 per person, which includes transportation, dinner, tour, and all gratuities. Current members of the Friends of the Library may register by telephone only, at 9 AM beginning Friday, October 17th. All others may register in person beginning Saturday, October 18th. There will be no refunds unless we are able to fill your space from a waiting list.

Putting Your Garden to Bed for the SeasonMonday, October 13th, 7:00 PM

Master Gardener and owner of Home Organic Garden-ing Service, Dylan Licopoli, will be leading this season-ally appropriate workshop on how to properly prepare your vegetable garden for the winter, so that it is ready to go in the spring. Taking the appropriate steps this fall will improve the health and structure of the soil, add necessary nutrients for springtime planting, help prevent weeds from establish-ing themselves, and protect plants which winter-over. Learn what it takes to train and work with search and rescue dogs. Officers from the SCPD Canine Unit will share what it takes to train dogs for tracking, area searches, article and evidence recovery, and handler protection. BECOME AN INFORMED VOTERRedistricting Referendum on November Ballot Thursday, October 9th, 7:00 PM

Become an informed voter and join the League of Women Voters to learn more about the referen-dum on redistricting that will appear on the Ballot this November.

In March 2012 the Governor and the legislature agreed on a plan to reform the manner in which state legislative and congressional districts are drawn in New York State. This plan provides for an indepen-dent commission to replace the Legislative Task Force for Demographic Research and Reapportionment (LATFOR). The plan, which requires an amendment to the state constitution, will appear on the ballot in November 4, 2014 and must be passed by the vot-ers to take effect. This presentation will describe the new redistricting process and will discuss the merits of the plan.

Meet the Candidates NightMonday, October 27, 2014, 7:00 - 9:00 PM.

The League of Women Voters of Huntington have invited candidates from the 3rd Congressional District, the 2nd and 5th State Senate Districts and the 10th and 12th State Assembly Districts. Each candidate will have an opportunity to share with the audience the reasons that they feel that they are best qualified for the office they seek. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the candidates.

You must bring a check payable to AARP to the Reference Desk to register The fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Please bring your license and AARP membership card with you to the class.
