BHIKHAKAKA

BHAIKAKA(CIRCA 1945)

A Dream Come True

It has always been felt that our Naon's strength comes from strong villages.

Just before our Independence, from nearby

Sojitra and Karamsad, arose two visionaries

with their own unique dream of a strong

rural India.

Known as Bhaikaka and Bhikhakaka, they

would use Educaon as an instrument for

great rural change. They would set up an

Educaonal Township for the people, of the

people and by the people, as an enduring

model for Free India.

Their dream would be blessed by two great sons of Mother India : Mahatma

Gandhi and Sardar Patel.

In those days, almost no one lived in the thickly wooded ravines where the

township now thrives. Foresaking family and familiarity, the two visionaries

seled under a desolate mango tree, to sketch out the blueprint of their vision.

In 1945, they registered a Public Charitable Trust: the Charutar Vidya Mandal, and

in the Eternal tradion of Takshashila and Nalanda, they laid on donated land, the

foundaon of the model Township, which would be inaugurated by India's first

Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Teachers, their spouses, Students and cizens voluntarily laboured to set up the

first college of the township, an Arts & Science college. In 1947 it was inaugurated

by Sardar Vallabhai Patel, with 600 students on the roll.

In 1948, Lord Mountbaen, Brish India's last viceroy inaugurated the state's first

college of Engineering, for which Rs. 2.5 million had been generously donated by

Shri Ghanshyamdas Birla.

In 1950, India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad inaugurated a college of

Commerce.

The Township grew so rapidly that in 1955, Sardar Patel University sprung up

without any Government funding and today, it enjoys an excellent rang from the

Naonal Assessment & Accreditaon Council for Educaon in India.

Vallabh Vidyanagar

During 1958-1993, Dr. H. M. Patel of Dharmaj, the then Chairman of the

Charutar Vidya Mandal, established many Instuons adding the contemporary

elegance of Oxford and Cambridge to the Eternal tradions of Takshashila and

Nalanda.

Since 1994, the present Chairman of the Charutar Vidya Mandal,

Dr. C. L. Patel, carried out extensive renovaons, updated all land records of the

trust, set up several self-financed colleges and introduced many pioneering

courses. To the Eternal tradion of Takshashila and Nalanda, and to the

contemporary elegance of Oxford and Cambridge, Dr. C. L. Patel added the

thrust, direcon and global relevance of Harvard and MIT and also created the

New Vallabh Vidyanagar with state of the art academic centres. In recognion of

his outstanding service he has won innumerable accolades-Charotar Ratna,

Shalin Manav Ratna and Gujarat Ratna.

The once thickly wooded ravine sans inhabitaon now houses over 30,000

students from all across India and from abroad, enrolled at instuons from the

kindergarten to the Post-Graduate levels.

Pleasing architecture, lush greenery, ultra-modern equipment, high-end courses,

2,800 computers coupled 24 x 7 on LAN, internet and wireless digital internet,

over 3,500 Faculty members, a large yet non-pollung Industrial Area, a

substanal resident populaon: all gloriously prove the prophecy of our Naon's

founding fathers :

"Strong villages a Strong Naon make".

The vision of Bhaikaka and Bhikhabhai

flourishes as Vallabh Vidyanagar

remains a model Educaonal Township

for India.

EDUCATION WITHOUT CHARACTER

IS USELESS"

H M Patel Career Development Centre

Awareness Informaon Counselling Training

The late Dr. H M Patel, whose name adorns the

CDC, strongly felt that special efforts were

needed to provide young scholars with non-

curricular skills and abilies.

The CDC started with short-term training

programmes for aspirants to the Union Public

Service Commission (UPSC) examinaons.

Soon, the Gujarat State Public Service

Commission examinaons too were addressed.

Today, the CDC conducts short-term Entrance

Training Programmes for aspirants to Graduate

and Post-Graduate courses such as the BBA/BCA and the MBA/MCA. It also

conducts courses for the GMAT, GRE, TOFEL and IELTS. Training for the

NET/SLET exams is also conducted at the centre.

For global effecveness, English Enrichment Programmes are conducted.

Internaonal-value-addion is enabled through basic classes for the French and

German Languages.

The CDC is entrusted with the ongoing process of rang from the Naonal

Assessment & Accreditaon Council of India, for which purpose it trains the

teaching as well as non-teaching personnel on the campus.

The CDC has adopted a triple pronged thrust in support of its acvies :

Communicaons, Computers and Confidence.

The CDC has class-rooms, a Seminar Hall, and a well-equipped computer Room

with 10 P - III Compaq machines on a LAN hooked up to a campus-wide intranet

that enjoys 24 x 7 connecvity to the 'net.

Its modest Library and Reading Room have over 2,000 books, over 60 magazine-

issues every month and 6 newspapers a day support its acvies; it offers a

separate Library Membership too.

Overall, the CDC has well maintained hygienic interiors as well as exteriors. The

CDC enjoys the advantage of having enthusiasc, seasoned and commied

humans of all secons involved with it, and consequently, is a warm, welcome and

useful instuon on the campus.
