1 INTRODUCTION The ProSalt Mixer System is a combination of the patented ProPure C100 injection mixer and the patented ProPure M100 inline mixer. The ProSalt Mixer System has a wash water injection section and a wash water distribution system inside the mixer at the position of the 6” wash water injection nozzle. The ProSalt Mixer System has also a separate 2” injection nozzle for demulsifier at the inlet side of the mixer system. The ProSalt Mixer System is designed for desalting of crude oil. The wash water and if applicable the demuilsifier are distributed and premixed into the crude oil flow in the injection part of the mixer system, and the main mixing of the crude oil wash water and demulsifier is performed in the inline mixer section. The mixer internal of the inline mixer section is adjustable, see figure 1.1. Depending on the crude oil flow rate or the required pressure drop (mixing intensity), the mixer internal can be adjusted to fit the actual process conditions at any time. Fig 1-1 The ProSalt Mixer System, is based on the mixer combination ProPure C100 + ProPure M100.

2 MIXING CURVES FOR THE PROSALT MIXER SYSTEM The ProSalt Mixer System handles both the wash water and demulsifier injection at low pressure drop, and the dispersion of the wash water into small, narrow-sized droplets which are separable in the downstream crude-water separation. The internals of the 24” ProSalt Mixer Systems are tailor-made according to the process conditions at the Dos Bocas Terminal, taking into account the crude flow rate and -viscosity so that the appropriate shear stress exposure is imposed to the crude oil and wash water mixture entering the in-line mixer section. The position of the adjustable mixer internal is controlled by use of an electric actuator which is controlled by a pressure drop measurement over the ProSalt units and associated set-points entered into the control system. The pressure drop vs. crude oil flow rate for the 24” ProSalt Mixer Systems is shown in Fig. 2.1. Pressure drop for the two extreme mixer internal positions 0° and 60° are indicated.

A considerable range in pressure drop for a given flow rate can be achieved by rotating the mixer internal from the 0° position to the 60° position. However based on experience, the tentative pressure drop over the ProSalt Mixer Systems will be kept in the range 0.15 – 0.25 bar. With a defined mixer internal reference position at 0°, the pressure drop sensitivity (pressure drop relative to reference position at 0°) over the ProSalt units vs. mixer internal position is illustrated for the crude oil flow rate of 300 000 BPD in Fig. 2.2.

Fig 2.2 Pressure drop sensitivity vs. mixer internal position. Fig. 2.2 illustrates that the pressure drop sensitivity vs. cylinder position is low close to reference position and increases towards the extreme mixer internal position at 60°.
