Methodology of laying stoneware salt glazed pipes.

Pipes are to be tested with a pressure of 770kg applied by a means of flat board of same length as pipes. Stoneware pipes should not absorb more than 2% of their weight of water 1 immersed in it for 48 hours.

The levels are taken along the central line of the propose sewer at every 10 to 15 metre or closer if the surface is irregular. The excavated base of the soil should rammed thoroughly and then 6” thick M15 PCC is provided to give hard surface for laying the pipes. Pipe is laid in such a way that 1/8 of its portion shall be fixed in PCC.

The socket of the pipe must be at the higher end of the slope. After laying the pipe back filling is done by the excavated earth in the layer of 230mm thick. Over the rammed soil 9” thick rabble packing is provided filling the gaps with crush stone. 6” thick PCC is provided over the rubble soling in proper slope and level. All the connection joints are done properly.

Report regarding the water proofing & sewerage line works of GIC Staff Quarters, Building Nos. 7 to 12, Near Phulpakaru Udyan, Magathane, Borivali (East),Mumbai-400 066

The undersigned visited the above mentioned premises on 24.12.2016 along with Mr. Ajay Dalvi of United India Insurance Co.Ltd., to verify the cause of mixing of dirty water in the underground two tanks of buildings Nos. 7 to 12.

Situation of the Site

The site is situated towards East side of the western express highway in GIC compound, Magathane, Borivali (East). The buildings are about 3 to4 km. fromthe Borivali (East) station. The area is in the residential zone. All types of communication systems are available from the site in other words Taxi, Bus and Trains. The locality is of medium class. All the insurance companies are having there flats in that locality.

After inspection of the sites our observations, comments and remidies are as under.

1. Building Nos.7 to 12 is having two underground tanks each having three compartments and a pump house above them.

2. External dimentions of each tank is 24’x12’x10’

3. During the inspection it is noticed that there is no substantial leakages from inside the tanks.

4. Leakages are from the external faces of the tanks in other words may be from the pardies and bottom slabs.

5.Pump Houses above the tanks require minor repairs.

6. Repair of the external faces of the pardies, excavation will done on all the four sides of the tanks.

36

2

7. External face will be having box type waterproofing treatment and internal face will have tiles after damage portions of the pardies to be repaired by the Polymer of Sunanda and Equilant Companies.

The bottom slab will be tested with the full water filled in the tank. The water will be kept in the tank for 3 to 4 days and then again reading will be taken to find out if there is any leakages from bottom slabs or from the pardies.

Sewerage Line

The excavation upto 6’ in all the type of the soil shall be done along with 1’ concrete of the top shall also have to remove carefully. The width of the excavation shall be 2’-6’’. The bottom of the excavation surface shall rammed properly and then bedding concrete of 6” thick (1:2:4) shall be laid.

Over this bedding 8” dia stoneware salt glazed pipes shall be laid with proper slope and manhole shall be provided at every 10’ to 15’ c/c as required.

If old manholes are in proper condition then the same shall be used after the repairs and the other manholes which are damaged codition, the same will be reconstructed with cover etc.

Back filling of excavated material shall be done with proper consoledation. The 9” thick rubble soling shall be done over which 6” thick M15 concrete shall be laid in proper slope and shape. The temporary stoneware pipes shall be used wherever required to change the original pipes and lay the new pipes. Also provide temporary manholes. All the gully traps are to be changed and wherever required temporary connection to be done to outlet pipes and stoneware pipes. The pipes laid near the under ground tanks shall be encased with the concrete all around.

The connected pipes between gully and stoneware pipes shall be of 4” dia made of stoneware. In the end stoneware pipes will be connected to the outlet drainage pipes of BMC.

Our observations regarding the building and allied works which are necessary to be carried out.

Other Repairs which are necessary

1. Structural members of the building in other words columns, beams and slabs of all the buildings.

2.External plaster of the buildings.

3.Chajjas to be waterproofed along with terrace.

4. Some overhead tanks are leaking .

According to us the buildings are already repaired twice therefore redevelopment will be economical in future.

WIDTH OF EXCAVATION IN TRENCHES FOR PIPES CABLES ETC.

1) Up to one metre depth i.e. from G.L. To 1.00m below, the authorized width of trench for excavation shall be arrived by adding 250mm to the external diameter of pipe (not socket/collar), cable, conduit etc. Where a pipe is laid on concrete bed/cushioning layer, the authorized width shall be the external diameter of pipe (not socket/collar) plus 250mm or the width of concrete bed/cushioning layer, whichever is more.

2) For depth exceeding 1m i.e.1m below ground to 2m below ground on allowance of 50mm on each side of trench shall be added, to the authoried width,(i.e. external diameter of pipe plus 250mm)

3) For depths between 2m to3m from ground additional allowance of 50mm for each side of the trench shall be added, to the width calculated as described for heights between ground level &2m portion. This addition to be continued for further depths.

38

44)The sides of trenches shall be kept vertical in firm soils up to a depth of 2m from bottom. For depths greater than 2m. the excavation profile shall be widened by allowing steps 500mm on either side after every 2m from bottom.

5)Where more than one pipe cable , conduit are laid the diameter shall be reckoned as the horizontal distance from outside to outside of the outermost pipe, cables, conduits etc.

6)In case where the soil is loose, soft or slushy width of trench shall be suitably increase or side sloped or soil shored up as directly by the Engineer-in-charge.Sloping or shoring to be done for excavation in soft, loose or slushy soils.

7)Minimum width, however, should be 600mm.
