Prop Ideas and Decisions

Difficulties

• We changed some of our original prop decisions due to them not being needed. We also introduced new props from which we needed whilst filming.

• Most of these decisions were made due to us going on set and noticing that our props didn’t quite work as well as we’d hoped.

How did we overcome this?

We overcome these difficulties by coming up with new ideas or getting rid of the old ideas. This is how we introduced the props used in our ancilliary work.

Changes

Why?

We decided to introduce the props used in all of our ancilliaryproducts – white masks, voodoo doll and “welcome to Woodwich” sign.This helped us introduce cross media promotion. It also helped us create a running motif so that our trailer could become more horrific in its image.

How?

We each filmed our products by either panning or zooming around it. We then used post-production to add a “negative” effect to them with the use of jump cuts to make it look like it was flashing.

This made the props stand out and made the trailer look conventionally horrific.

What worked well?

• I feel that the use of the car worked well in creating a manic crash scene. It was hard to do this as we couldn’t seriously crash the car. Although some of the reaction shots didn’t work, the moving shots of the car look quite professional.

• I also like the use of cult like props such as the crucifix and the voodoo doll as part of the running motif. I feel that with the post-production these props could create a very visual and accurate image.
