Get traffic and promote yourblog using forums (FSP)

Getting blog traffic can be hard. Sometimes it can seemimpossible. So you’ve racked your brain, tried everything youcan think of, and still your not getting the blog traffic youdesperately need. There is a simple remedy to this problemand it will get your blog traffic, FAST. The solution I speakof is called, “Forum Self Promotion”, or FSP, as I havenamed it. FSP is a simple and effective strategy to gettingsome serious blog traffic, without spending money or wastingtime on promotion tactics that don’t work. If you are brandnew to the internet, or just haven’t heard of, or used forums,a forum is: A meeting or medium where ideas and views ona particular issue can be exchanged. Forums are everywhere. There are million of forums on the internet, all of them aimedat different categories or niches. This tutorial will teach youhow to harness the power of those forums, and use them toyour blog’s advantage. Read through this short tutorial, andbefore you know it your blog or website will be getting someserious traffic.

Find your blog’s niche or category:Finding your blog’s category or niche is easier than it mightseem. Ask yourself, “what is the goal of my blog”, or “whydid I start my blog to begin with”. I will use my blog as anexample for this tutorial. Info-Junkie.com is my blog, as youhave no doubt figured out by now, seeing as how your here. Myblog’s goal, niche or aim is to provide the public with tutorials, reviews, and general knowledge. Essentially my blog is a mash-up of a bunch of different categories, which many blogs are.It is considerably harder to use FSP (forum self promotion)with a blog like mine, because it is hard to nail down exactlywhich category I should focus on, because I have so many. However, it is important to focus on each category separately, and one at a time. Take a second to write, or type out a listof a few categories that sum up your site. Below is a list ofcategories I believe best represents my site as a whole:

1. Tutorials – Gaming tutorials, Software tutorials, Misctutorials

2. Reviews – Hardware, Software, Misc reviews

3. SEO (search engine optimzation) – Backlinks, SEO tips andtricks

These are but a few categories that I was able to put togetherfor my site, but this list will do. Your list will most likely belonger, or it may not, some blogs only focus on one or two maintopics. It is important to remember that all blogs are different.

Using your niche to find the rightforums:Finding the right forum to promote your site on is easier thanyou might think. Select your favorite search engine: Google,Yahoo, Bing, any of them will do. Go to the search box andtype something along the lines of, “My niche forums”, where“my niche” is replaced with your blogs category. For example,if I were attempting to promote my blog’s gaming tutorials, Iwould type, “gaming forums”. Remember, “Less is not more, only more is more”, the more forums that you can post on, thegreater your blog’s promotion will ultimately be.

blog. You can write a short bio, where you describe your blogand can even put a link to it. Some forums even allow you aplace to directly input your website. This allows users who seeyour forum profile to locate your site, it also can provide youwith a free backlink, which will help your site rank higher onsearch engines like google. Forum profiles also allow you toplace a signature, which will appear under all of your posts, you can use this to further promote your site, without directlyspamming your website link. Try putting a picture with yoursite name in your forum signature, or even just put a link toyour site, anything helps.

Most forums require that you provide an email address, usedto confirm your account. It is sometimes a good idea to createa separate email just for this purpose, as forums can create alot of spam mail. It is a good idea to head over to gmail.comand create a new email address used exclusively for forums.

How and where to start posting:This is without a doubt the most important part ofthis entire tutorial. Figuring out how and where to post canbe hard. You do not want to come across as a spammer, onlymaking threads about your website, as these will get deleted byforum moderators, and most people ignore these type of posts. There are two different ways that you can go about posting onforums, and not seeming like a spammer.

1. Post your article or link to your article in your posts

2. Comment on posts that already exist and get your name andsignature out there

1. Post your article or link to your articlein your posts:This is the first way to start posting, and in my opinion, thebest way to go about promoting your blog. Once you haveentered your forum, pick a category that suits an article youhave on your site, or write and article specifically for thispurpose. If I am on a gaming forum and I have an article abouta certain game I would go to that category, and make a postwith the article’s title as it’s title. Now you have one of twooptions, either post the entire article on the forum, or post alink to your blog where the forum is located. Write somethinglike, “Hey guys, I have found a great article on (your articlehere) it has great information on (your information) here’s thelink: (your link here)”. This is a way to make a post, and at thesame time, not come across as a spammer. If you decide to postthe entire article, make sure to put your website address underthe title.

Tags, Tags, Tags, they are important!* Don’t forget to put tags in your new post. Mostforums allow you to enter a few tags for your post. Putonly the most relevant tags to your post. These tagshelp others search for your post on the forum, andalso help your posts appear on search engines. Youwould be surprised how often forum posts appearon google searches. I have several forum posts that

appear as rank 1 and rank 2 on google. This is agreat way to get site promotion without getting tonsof backlinks or using SEO. *

2. Comment on posts that already existand get your name and signature out thereThe other strategy that exists out there is to comment onother’s posts and use your signature to promote your blog foryou. Pick any category on the forum that you feel you havesome insight on. Answer questions, post your comments, oreven your suggestions. Make yourself known on the forum in agood way, don’t rub others the wrong way. The more you post, the more your forum signature is promoting your blog for you.If you have a good signature picture and text, it will attractmembers eyes to it. They may become curious, and then youget some traffic. Sometimes, if the thread permits it, you caneven respond to a thread with your blog’s url. For instance, ifthe thread said, “I am looking for a good site for tutorials”, Iwould post my blog’s url, because I am not spamming, I amsimply answering the original poster’s question. Just try andstay active on the forums, let people know who you are andwhat your about. The more insight and good information youhave, the more credible you seem, and thus more people willwant to check out your blog.

Use high page rank forums to getyou top hits on search engines:Sometimes forums with high page ranks can appear high onthe search engine rankings. Lets say you do a google searchfor a popular set of keywords for your site, and a forum popsup, YOU ARE IN LUCK! For example, if I do a google searchfor, “How to advertise your Minecraft server”, a forum namedminecraft-forum.net appears very high on the rankings. Ihappen to have an article on this very topic. So I simply createa thread on the forum and used the exact keywords I used ingoogle to find the forum, and then use them again in the tags, and BAM! My post on the forum now appears rank 2 on googlesearch for this set of keywords. Try doing this yourself, type afew of your article titles in your favorite search engine, and seeif any forums pop up. If they do try what I suggested and thankme later. This is a great way to piggyback on well establishedpages and use their site to promote your own.

Using the method I have described above is not only fast, butit is also effective. I guarantee if you spend an hour a day usingthis strategy, before you know it you will be getting some goodblog traffic. If you have any questions or comments leave thembelow. Thanks for reading!
