VI. Rationale

English is the international language that's why English communication skills is very significant. People who are at the top of our society are those who can use and understand English. Communication skills are essential for successful future career of a student. In todays competitive world, communication skills in business are the most sought after quality of an educated person. Reading, writing, speaking and listening carefully are the four most important communication skills for students. These skills like most of the communication skills sounds too familiar as a result of which we take them for granted.

According to Mann., L. (1999) on his premise, "Communication is the vehicle which allows humans to recall the past and plan for the future." The author emphasizes the role of oral communication in our daily and occupational lives. Within our experience as communicators, we typically spend 75% of our time speaking and listening and only 25% reading and writing.

As stressed by the newsletter of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development 41,1,6-7, speaking and listening (the first basic skills), argues that instructions in a broad range of basic speaking and listening skills should begin during the highschool years. Students need to learn how to communicate in a variety of context - the home, the hall way, the playground and the workplace.

Graduating students must be ready for the next step of their journey. Most of them will go to college wherein it requires a lot of talking and comprehension in a higher level. Effective communication skills are important for college entrance. Some universities may even require an interview. Also good communication is one of the important keys to many college students success. It must take place between the student and the college, between the parents and the college, but most importantly between the parents and the student. Good communication is transactional and involves both talking and listening.

This seminar is designed to inspire critical thought of communication style and choices. Also it offers you the tool to understand many complex and fascinating ways in which language and communication work in the world and also to improve their own abilities and skills in communication and daily discourse. Thus, this seminar is being conceptualized before they left their Alma Mater.

VII. Objectives

At the end of the end of the seminar, the participant's are expected to:
