HEALTH AND SAFETY—CCDBG MANDATED TRAININGS

HEALTH AND SAFETY BASICS (See dates and sessions below)Best practices and standards for health and safety are the foundation of quality child care. Meeting the basic health and safety needs of all children sets the stage for positive child outcomes. This health and safety orientation module pro-vides an overview of the basic health and safety requirements and best practices in nine of the topic areas as outlined in the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act of 2014. Safe spaces, transportation safety, handling and stor-age of hazardous materials, emergency preparedness, prevention and control of infectious disease, food and allergic reactions and how to respond, overview of administration of medication, shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma, safe sleep and SUIDS prevention.

IDENTIFYING CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT: MANDATED REPORTING (See dates and sessions below)This is a part of the Health and Safety Basics training required by the CCDBG Reauthorization. Participants will gain a better understanding of the types of child abuse and neglect, how to recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect, New Jersey’s requirements for mandated reporting and how to create and implement organization specific reporting policies.

The challenge is for the provider to demonstrate how to meet the developmen-tal needs of children of many different ages. Best practices and standards for health and safety are the foundation of quality child care. Meeting the basic health and safety needs of all children sets the stage for positive child outcomes. This health and safety orientation mod-ule provides an overview of the basic health and safety requirements and best practices in nine of the topic areas as outlined in the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act of 2014. Safe spaces; transportation safety; handling and storage of hazardous materials; emer-gency preparedness; prevention and control of infectious disease; food and allergic reactions and how to respond; overview of administration of medication; shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma; safe sleep and SUIDS prevention.

Qualify to earn 11 college credits towards an Associate of Arts in Education at Essex County College!

The CDA is a nationally recognized credential for teachers of young children ages birth to eight. The CDA course is offered in Spanish and English. The course includes: 120 clock hours of early child-hood education instruction on child development, theory, and practice. Also included are mentoring,

and an onsite observation with coaching.

To enroll, you must:• Be at least 18 years old, OR

• A high school student at least 16 years old in a high school work/study program • Have proof of high school enrollment/Diploma/GED or letter from high school work/study program

• Be working or volunteering at a licensed early childhood education program or family child care home

Most workshops are held at: Programs for Parents, 500 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair, NJ (ring 2nd floor bell) (Workshops and classes that are held in Newark, 570 Broad St., 9th floor, or at other locations are clearly indicated.)

All workshops are $15 unless otherwise indicated. All workshops receive child care clock hours and CEU’s unless otherwise indicated.

Walk-ins may not be accepted if the class is full. For walk-in, call ahead to ensure availability and only credit cards or money orders will be accepted as payment.
